Hapuku Lodge + Treehouses KAIKŌURA, NEW ZEALAND
Nestled between the Kaik ura Seaward Mountain Range and the Pacific Ocean, Hapuku Lodge + Treehouses is a contemporary country lodge, owned by the Wilson family, which is just a few miles north of Kaik ura. It offers a spectacular treehouse experience,
where guests can feel closer to nature. Visitors will settle into one of five free-standing treehouses, each with sweeping views from almost every angle, and cantilevered decks, providing the perfect vantage points from which to spot deer wandering on the resident farm or eavesdrop on nocturnal wildlife. The main lodge itself consists of one room and three suites, along with the beautiful Olive House, Hapuku’s version of an owner’s cottage. All rooms feature individual fireplaces, custom-designed furniture, tailor-made beds, spacious bathrooms with heated floors and large soaking tubs. Included in the stay are spectacular dining
experiences, including a three-course dinner and à la carte breakfast. Guests can spend the day birdwatching, hiking, fishing or taming the nearby
surf break before kicking back in the in-house spa, sauna, hot tub, solar-heated pool and gm. Hapuku also has boutique conference facilities ideal for small conferences and board meetings. Dedicated to a sustainable ethos, the Wilson’s
passion for food, design and nurturing the environment fits perfectly into the values of the community — which was the first community in the world to become Green Globe certified in 2002 . Guests dine on delicious, hearty, local fare: vegetables and herbs are grown on site and freshly-pressed olive oil comes from the olive grove behind the Treehouses. For every night a guest spends at Hapuku, a native tree is planted on the property, helping towards offsetting emissions. Hapuku also gives back through sponsorship of marine mammal research conducted by the Kaik ura Marine Mammal Foundation. The lodge has built a dedicated marine mammal laboratory on its property, where a proportion of the revenue of every guest’s stay is donated to local marine mammal research projects.
Don’t miss Hapuku’s Treehouses provide a bird’s eye view of Kaikōura’s mountains and dramatic Pacific coastline
