PAID CONTENT FOR HOTEL ARCTIC

Hotel Arctic ILULISSAT, GREENLAND

Hotel Arctic, the world’s northernmost four-star hotel, enjoys a stunning location on the shores of the Ilulissat Iceford, which was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2004. The hotel has a five-star conference centre with

high-tech equipment and facilities, making it an ideal — and unique — destination for corporate retreats or scientific symposiums. Many new experiences await in a cosy and relaxed atmosphere, surrounded by rocks, ice and water. The restaurants at Hotel Arctic source organic

and seasonal produce from local fishermen and hunters, which are then used by the resident chefs to prepare contemporary twists on traditional Greenlandic dishes. The emphasis is on showcasing cuisine that is local, authentic and consistently delicious. The design and decor of the rooms have been inspired by the Iceford and the icebergs floating in the bay, combining modern Nordic design with authentic Greenlandic handicrafts. All rooms have a view of the Iceford and Disko Bay, the bustling port or the town of Ilulissat.

Ilulissat is a charmingly picturesque

town, where colourful wooden houses on the mountainside nestle next to modern constructions. Dog sleds parked outside the houses provide an indication of the traditional form of local transport still in use here. There are a large number of thrilling

excursions and activities available to Hotel Arctic guests. Visitors to Ilulissat can set off on a boat trip on the Iceford, get a bird’s-eye view of glaciers on a helicopter tour, watch the Northern Lights dance across the sky, go dog sledding across the majestic landscape, hike through the northern forests, catch sight of whales in the bay and float between the icebergs in a kayak. The Iceford is home to one of the largest and

most active glaciers in the world — a 1,160 sq mile enormity that moves by approximately 130ft every day and calves around 10% of all the icebergs that drift out to sea from Greenland. Guests shouldn’t miss out on the chance to get up close to this natural wonder and witness the birth of icebergs.

Don’t miss Glide between icebergs in a kayak while exploring the spectacular Disko Bay
