THE INSIDER
AMALFI COAST
HEAD OUT IN A BOAT If you’re staying on the Amalfi Coast, you can’t miss a trip on the water. Hire a boat with a captain and spend a day along the coast, enjoying the sea, sun and views. You can reach the renowned island of Capri, visit the cliff side village of Positano or simply stop for a swim!
AMALFI LEMONS
The Amalfi Coast boasts several small family-run lemon farms,
which add a vibrant splash of yellow to the area’s beautiful landscape.
This outstandingly beautiful
area of Italy boasts a host of picturesque small towns and stunning coastal views. Here ROBERTA PERSICO, villa
concierge for Abercrombie & Kent, gives her top tips for experiences around the region
LAP UP THE LEMONS The Amalfi Coast is world-famous for its lemons. At A&K we have connections with a local lemon farm and offer tours for guests. The Amalfi Lemon Experience is run by Salvatore Aceto and his family who own the three-hectare farm. Prepare to sample all things lemon – homemade lemon drizzle cake, lemon skin and, of course, limoncello!
REVEL IN THE MUSIC OF RAVELLO Ravello is a beautiful spot high in the hills. Head up to enjoy breathtaking views but also to hear why it’s known as the City of Music. See the gardens of Villa Rufolo before enjoying a concert at Oscar Niemeyer’s auditorium.
HIKE THE PATH OF THE GODS The Path of the Gods is a beautiful hiking trail and gives a different perspective of the Amalfi coastline. Ideally, walk from Agerola to Nocelle, as the route runs gently downhill. Set off early to avoid the crowds and heat. The trail ends in Nocelle, in the upper part of Positano.
The locals use lemons for everything – in their food and drinks and even for medicinal purposes. At Belmond Hotel Caruso in Ravello, you’ll spot Amalfi lemons on the drinks menu and within the culinary fare. Here, the hotel’s head barman, Tommaso Mansi (pictured below), reveals the recipe for the property’s signature Sweet Taste of Summer cocktail:
2 parts vodka parts elderower liueur parts lioncello part freshly sueeed alfi leon uice Top up the glass with fresh fiery ginger beer
Describing the cocktail, Tommaso
says: “It’s a sweet and sour cocktail with delicate notes of elderflower and a fiery kick of ginger; the
perfect drink to capture the sweet taste of summer and transport you to the heart of the Amalfi Coast.”
