WANTED

A mature couple would like a two-week escorted tour in Latin America next year. They would like to explore Peru, visiting

places such as Lima, Cusco and Machu Picchu, along with other highlights for first-time visitors. They’re flexible with dates and would like to know the best time to visit so that it’s not too hot. They would like information about escorted tours. BUDGET: £7,000

THE VERDICT

The shopper was very impressed with the service and knowledge of the friendly Kuoni agent, even though the quote was well below the budget. The service from the Trailfinders agent was also enthusiastic and persuasive but the quote was only an estimate. The service in Kanoo Travel was disappointing, but the agency redeemed itself by emailing a quote. All the suggestions featured plenty of information about the tours and places on the itineraries.

PERSONAL TRAVEL EXPERT REA HATTERSLEY

Peru is quite popular but we don’t get enquiries about it every week – it depends if something about Peru has been on the TV. I have not been there but my manager has and shared his knowledge with us. I have been a travel agent for two years and started here.

CLARIFICATION Mystery Shopper (T

KUONI KING STREET

IMPRESSIONS: The shop was spacious, warm and comfortable, with smartly dressed staff.

SERVICE: I was greeted warmly and courteously, then introduced to a colleague who had more knowledge about Peru. After talking about my budget and wish list, the agent searched online for the best deals. She was 0 e very knowledgeable, but when she couldn’t find some information she asked colleagues. The agent smiled throughout and her warm personality made me feel that she was working just for me. She supplied comprehensive information, tailored to my needs, and the excursions were very appealing.

QUOTES: Travel was for April, flying from Manchester to Lima via Amsterdam with KLM. I was offered Kuoni’s 12-day Lost World of the Incas tour, staying in a selection of hotels. The itinerary visits the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, Cusco and Lake Titicaca. It cost £5,830. The agent pointed out several options such as visits to markets and archaeological sites and said that would be the best price flying from Manchester with KLM.

Go Travel’s membership of Freedom before publication and understands that the agency was under significant pressure at the time following the collapse of Thomas Cook. We would like to apologise for any additional stress caused by the timing of the visit.

OVERALL: The agent was professional, helpful and efficient. She paid close attention to my needs especially with Manchester flights. She was very persuasive and the quote was well within budget.
