(ii) The area labelled A on the photograph is now being used for housing estates, as can be seen on the Ordnance Survey map of Lusk from 2019 (page 109).
Explain why this area was a good location to build housing estates. Use evidence from the aerial photograph or the Ordnance Survey map to support your answer.
Transport: From the aerial photograph we can see existing housing estates in the west, southeast and south of the town. These are well serviced by a number of regional roads in and around the town. On the 1:10 000 map we can see that the R128 acts as a ring road around the town, which means additional traffic brought by the housing estate to the area should not cause traffic problems. These roads link with more important roads, which means the residents can travel to nearby cities/ towns for work.
Drainage:
Choose three pieces of evidence to support your answer.
Here transport, drainage and existing services have been selected for you.
Existing Services:
Name the roads that service the area. These will connect Lusk to other parts of Ireland, which is important for work and recreation. The site chosen is also near a road, meaning residents will be able to access it.
(iii) Examine the aerial photograph from 2000 on page 110 and the Ordnance Survey map from 2019 on page 109. Other than housing, describe one change in land use between 2000 and 2019.
