When we talk about the weight of an object, we are talking about how heavy the object is.
In this chapter we will be exploring weight using kilograms (kg) and grams (g).
One gram is not very heavy. A thumbtack weighs about one gram. One kilogram is a lot heavier. A 1kg bag of sugar weighs one kilogram. There are 1000 grams in one kilogram. That means that if you put a 1kg bag of sugar on a
balance scales, it would take 1000 thumb tacks (that weigh 1g each) to balance the scales.
We can use other types of scales to tell us the exact weights of objects in kg and g.
For example, we can use kitchen scales or bathroom scales to weigh objects and then read their exact weight.
What weight is this man? What weight are these apples?
