hands) and considered by connoisseurs of rowing to be the ultimate in fixed-seat team rowing. Dart Gig Club members train in the river and at sea


all year round, and race at ports throughout the South West most weekends from late March through to October. The club’s own regatta on the River Dart is one of the first in the circuit, and is usually held over the Easter weekend. Members also regularly compete in the World Championships in the Scilly Isles; have raced in


the London River Race; Holland; and Duxsbury, Massachusetts; rowed the English Channel in record time; and to Guernsey and back for charity. The club has more than 100 members ranging in age


from 11 to over 70, and has a thriving junior section. Peta said: “We are a vibrant Dartmouth club with a


proud history and we’d like to ask readers for their help in securing our future.”


The club’s planned new shelter is a single storey structure which is sympathetic to the heritage and location of the site, and will be built by members – many of whom are builders, electricians and plumbers in the town.
