MELIA TO USE BLOCKCHAIN TO OFFSET EMISSIONS
MELIA HOTELS INTERNATIONAL claims it is the first hotel company in the world to apply ‘environmental blockchain’ to offset its carbon emissions through a partnership with a Spanish start-up. ClimateTrade uses blockchain to allow companies to offset greenhouse gas emissions online “in a very simple and direct way”. The technology enables firms to avoid intermediaries in offsetting schemes and ensure funds reach certified sustainable projects that combat climate change, preserve ecosystems and help maintain biodiversity. Beginning in the first quarter, MeliaRewards members
will be able to redeem points in exchange for international Verified Carbon Standard-certified carbon credits and use
them to support a number of sustainability projects. Blockchain in travel: BBT Hotlist, p86

Third generation Taylor takes over the helm at Enterprise
CHRISSY TAYLOR HAS BEEN PROMOTED to chief executive at Enterprise Holdings, making her only the fourth boss of the firm and the third generation of her family to take the helm. Taylor – the daughter and granddaughter of former chief executives Andy and Jack Taylor respectively – succeeds Pam Nicholson, who held the role since 2013 and retired in 2019. As chief executive, Taylor will oversee the global strategy and operations of Enterprise Holdings, which owns and operates the Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car brands.
She is one of the top female chief executives across all industries based on company revenue, according to Enterprise. Taylor will retain her previous title of president. Taylor began her career in the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Management Training Program and later moved to the group’s corporate headquarters to oversee regional operations through the US. In 2006, she relocated to London to further develop the company’s market in the UK, Germany and Ireland. After obtaining her executive MBA from
Washington University in St Louis in 2010, Taylor joined Enterprise Holdings’ treasury group where she assisted in the financial restructuring of the company’s fleet management business. She was named chief operating officer in 2016 and president in 2019.
