PRODUCT LAUNCHES

In Denmark, Villa Copenhagen (villacph.com) is a stylish transformation of the Danish capital’s former 1912 post office. It offers 390 hotel rooms and is steps from the central station, which connects with CPH Airport via a 15-

minute train ride. Eight meeting and event spaces will cater for up to 1,200 people. Spain’s first Four Seasons Hotel will open this month within a collection of landmark historical buildings in Madrid, offering 200 rooms, nine different event venues and nearly 1,500 sqm of meeting space.

In the UK, Kimpton reinforces its presence after openings in London, Glasgow and Edinburgh with the Clocktower, Manches- ter, opposite Oxford Road station, which will offer 270 rooms. Meanwhile, The Guardsman at London’s Buckingham Gate (guardsmanhotel.com) is due to open, close to the Queen Eliz- abeth Centre, and offering one to three-bedroom apartments with kitchens as well as a restaurant and 24-hour room service.

The Pestana Douro (pestana.com) will open in Porto with 165 guestrooms and a riverside conference centre offer- ing several meeting and event spaces.

All eyes will be on The Londoner, Leicester Square, which will add 350 new hotel rooms into the heart of the West End, and feature a ballroom with capacity for 800 guests, two private cinema spaces and a full range of meeting

rooms. It’s the latest in the Edwardian portfolio. To the west, Bath will gain a further 166 hotel rooms with the opening of the Indigo (ihg.com/hotelindigo) on South Parade.

TAKE TIME OUT

Busy travel managers should feel no guilt in justifying taking time out of the office. It can be essential to staying up to date, according to Erika Sjoholm, manager of global industry relations on the external communications team at American Express Global Business Travel. She says two-thirds of travel buyers recently

surveyed by Amex GBT reported wanting to improve user experience, “and part of that is understanding what solutions are available and whether they meet the needs of both programme and travellers. In particular, trade shows are a good opportunity to see and experience first hand what products are out there”. Shows also provide a valuable platform for

TMCs to show off their own launches, she adds. “These industry events enable us to engage face-to-face with people and showcase our latest developments. But also of significant value to both buyers and service providers are the education programmes at these events, which give us all the opportunity to debate topical industry issues and share experiences and knowledge with peers.”
