Marriott plans luxury expansion
MARRIOTT INTERNATIONAL HAS ANNOUNCED plans to open more than 30 new luxury properties across the globe in 2020 through its portfolio of high-end brands. Ritz-Carlton will open properties in Morocco, Japan,
Mexico City, Arizona and China, while its hotel in South Beach, Florida, is in the final stages of a complete refurbishment. It also expects to launch the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection in June. Meanwhile, St Regis will introduce hotels in Cairo, Mexico
and Dubai, and W Hotels will see openings in Nashville (pictured), Philadelphia, Toronto, Chengdu, Melbourne, Milan and Rome. Also in 2020, Edition properties will be opening in
Reykjavik, Tokyo and Dubai, as well as Luxury Collection hotels in Nashville, Budapest and Hobart, Australia. Lastly, JW Marriott plans to grow its portfolio to 115 hotels
by 2022, with properties set to open in Savannah, Georgia, Orlando and Anaheim, as well as Istanbul, Danang, Nara, Japan, Muscat and Monterrey, Mexico, over the next year.

FOUR INDUSTRY EXPERTS have launched a non-profit membership body called the Business Travel Wellbeing Community (BTWC). Dr Lucy Rattrie, Matthew Holman,
Katie Virtue and John Lee said the move was in response to the increasing challenges faced across the industry, with the new group designed to “create action and advocacy with a proactive approach”. The BTWC will also be exhibiting in the new dedicated ‘Wellness Retreat’ area at the Business Travel Show on 26-27 February (see p22 for a preview of the event). Its objectives are based on helping the
traveller by bringing together individuals who actively raise the travel wellbeing conversation; improving awareness of issues now and in the future; educating travellers and organisations; enabling ambassadors; guiding organisations to provide the right support at the right time, and creating a culture, focus and commitment that will foster the wellbeing of travelling employees.

ARMORGIE TO LEAVE WIN NETWORK AND ADVANTAGE
NEIL ARMORGIE, global product director at Advantage Travel Partnership and WIN chief executive, is to leave the organisation on 18 February. Ken McLeod will continue as non-executive director on the WIN Board to provide transitional support over the next six months. Armorgie will join Snowstorm Technologies, which is a commercial partner of Advantage T Partnership, and will also maintain connections with WIN Hotel Hub.
