The middle ‘B’ is often forgotten about in the KBB industry. Generally regarded as not being seen as lucrative as kitchens or bathrooms, bedrooms often get overlooked. Vicki Evans explains how to make the most of this potentially profi table add-on
elling bedrooms can be a valuable add-on to your business. They can be an opportunity to expand and create new sales leads and even improve sales values by adding a bedroom on to an existing project. Stuart Dance, director and area manager for the North and Scotland at InHouse, was keen to share the pros of expanding your business to include bedrooms. “A retailer who adds on bedrooms stands a much better chance of getting repeat business from every single customer,” Dance says. “By thinking strategically, a retailer will: increase their average order size, as they can furnish multiple rooms; decrease their customer acquisition costs, as they reduce marketing and promotion expenditure; improve their customer retention, as they’ll be in touch with customers regularly; increase their referral rate because each customer has multiple reasons to recommend them; and improve their cash fl ow, as order to completion is quicker than for a complex kitchen or bathroom installation.” It sounds like a dream scenario, right? But where do you start?

People may turn their noses up at the idea of fi tted wardrobes and have thoughts of your grandma’s beige bedroom from the Seventies. But bedroom designers have moved with the times and trends have evolved and changed throughout the home – including fi tted bedrooms. Designs are now more fl exible, not only in the way that the furniture is manufactured but in its layout, drawer and door styles and design. Current kitchen and bathroom trends such as open- plan living, industrial, minimalism and smart technology can be refl ected just as easily in the bedroom.
