Glenwood Kitchens Matthew Hearsum, director
We offer great customer service and a great product at a reasonable price. There are some people out there who are trying to undercut the market, but we’re true to our word and stick with brands we know and trust, and who enjoy working with us. We’re not really involved in the contract sector – we just deal with a few bespoke, higher-end developers who want something a bit more special. In terms of the local market, there are little areas of Rotherham that are affl uent and Sheffi eld is just four miles away, which is also fairly affl uent. But you have a lot of kitchen studios in Sheffi eld, so we tend to stick to Rotherham, Worksop and Wakefi eld. And 95% of our customers come through recommendation. We do some social media stuff on Facebook but not too much as many of our customers tend to be older. We do advertise in the local glossy magazines – these tend to be distributed in nice cafés, pubs and garden centres. And we also have our signwritten vans and trailers which are out and about. We don’t bother with newspaper advertising.
Customers are typically in their 40s. We also tend to attract younger buyers as we’re a bit more design-led. We don’t usually get fi rst-time buyers or second- time buyers, but people who want their kitchen to really stand the test of time. We’ve been in business since 1981, so we’re now getting second-generation referrals coming in – the children of people we did work for in the 80s and 90s.
We’re pretty busy at the moment. Things have been steady and compared with last year, business is around the same level. I don’t know if Brexit has put people off, but we’re still getting customers through the door. I think having a bit of a cooler summer has probably helped and we’re booking well into next month.

In terms of brands we supply, it is Mereway. We do all Bosch, Neff and Siemens, but we’re a Siemens IQ dealer so have their full range of appliances. We do Blanco sinks and quartz and granite solid surfaces by Silestone, Caesarstone and Dekton.
