HEALTHCARE ESTATES

New training centre to be highlighted

Eastwood Park Training will be returning to Healthcare Estates with the latest information about its specialist, hands-on training, now delivered from a new ‘state- of-the-art’ centre. Established for 53 years, Eastwood

Park says it maintains its commitment to delivering quality training ‘as much today as the day it started’. Its training courses are regularly developed in partnership with leading industry bodies and associations, and are accredited by internationally recognised awarding bodies. Eastwood Park’s newly built 3000 m2

training facility encapsulates the core estates engineering services and facilities management, and provides a modern, ‘live’ hands-on learning environment. It includes a purpose-built lift training lab, HV substation, electrical plant room, ventilation lab, operating theatre, and one of the UK’s few ‘live’ medical gas pipeline systems outside of

hospitals, plus modern classrooms. Located on a 200-acre country estate, it is one of the few places in the UK where delegates can stay where they train. Eastwood Park said: “Enjoy the benefits of learning with us, with: n Highly practical training on a range of equipment.

n Courses led by highly experienced trainers.

n Hands-on facilities, including an operating theatre and fully equipped labs.

n A modern, conducive, learning environment.”

Developed with healthcare professionals management teams, leading contractors,

The team at Trovex says it ‘understands the challenges faced in the design and maintenance of effective healthcare environments’. The company said: “Our products, Hygipod and Hygidoor, have been designed and continuously developed

with input from healthcare professionals in clinical and Estates

and specialist architects. We could write several paragraphs on the benefits and features of our products, and how they are widely used throughout healthcare, but instead, we invite you to come and see them for yourself on the Trovex stand, G2 – next door to the Architects’ Showcase.”

Flexible and lower-cost uninterruptible power

Healthcare providers face an increasingly complex energy management challenge, with rising energy costs continuing to pressure already stretched budgets, while the NHS has committed to reaching Net Zero for the emissions it directly controls by 2040, 10 years ahead of the UK as a whole. New technologies like rapid EV

charging and electrified heating are also ramping up electrical demand, and increasing disruption risk, but simultaneously it remains vital that hospitals and other healthcare facilities are supplied with reliable, constant power. Powerstar says its technologies

88 Health Estate Journal September 2022

help healthcare providers ensure uninterruptible power ‘without impacting on energy costs or sustainability’. It said: “Battery energy storage systems provide the same instantaneous emergency power as other UPS systems, but without the significant losses that can inflate energy bills and carbon emissions. Their greater flexibility can also further reduce costs by purchasing power from the grid during off-peak periods, or generating new revenue through grid balancing services. BESS can also be used to store power from on-site generation such as solar PV, or buffer high demand technologies like rapid EV charging.”

Powerstar has recently produced a

White Paper, Supporting NHS Trusts and healthcare providers to balance their energy priorities, to support healthcare providers struggling to balance the various elements of ‘the Energy Trilemma’.
