Harnessing AI to manage medical gas systems

Founded in 1967, SHJ Medical Gas Specialists is an award-winning supplier of medical gas pipeline systems and services, and reportedly ‘a market-leader’ in remote AI (Artificial Intelligence) monitoring and energy-saving technologies. At this year’s Healthcare Estates, the

company will showcase Empower3, its upgraded intelligent plant control system, which it says provides Estates managers with fully automated control, ‘ensuring that medical gas plant is safe, reliable, and working at maximum efficiency’. Ian Clayton, senior Engineering

officer at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, where Empower3 was first implemented, will be presenting at this year’s conference, explaining how the system has been used there ‘to address issues of energy inefficiency and carbon emission reduction’. SHJ said: “Visit us

on stand C34 where we will demonstrate how Empower links up to Evolution, our 24/7 medical gas alarm system, which enables a multi- site monitoring and alert service, from any device, anywhere. “We will also demonstrate K’nect – our web-based medical gas data management portal via which users can access real-time plant and alarm monitoring data, and manage the efficiency of their plant. K’nect is fully bespoke for each customer, and tailored to each MGPS and site configuration.” SHJ was awarded the title, ‘Healthcare Supplier of the Year’ at Healthcare Estates 2021.

‘360 photos’ that give full remote visibilty and ‘deliver a deeper level of insight

Multivista, part of Hexagon, claims to be the world’s leading full-service visual construction documentation provider, contracted on over 4 billion square feet of construction, valued at over £400 bn.

The company works with over 30,000 companies, throughout 80+ international markets, and, Multivista says, they trust it to mitigate risk, create efficiencies,

throughout their project’s lifecycle’. Multivista has been working with the NHS and other healthcare providers for over eight years in the UK, and is currently involved in diverse projects ranging from the Midland Metropolitan Hospital, and the Baird Family Hospital and The ANCHOR Centre in Aberdeen, to numerous ward refits.

Over the past three years Multivista has been developing its ‘360 photo’ deliveries to provide clients with remote visibility, and has also developed products to assist with digital records and ‘digital twins’ of areas of construction such as the building envelope and fire-stopping, including via AI.

IHEEM’s magazine covers the most topical issues

Published 10 times a year, and the official IHEEM magazine, Health Estate Journal (‘HEJ’) is recognised as an authoritative, topical publication covering the most important issues facing healthcare estates and facilities management and healthcare engineering professionals, as well as the associated design, architectural, and construction supply chain. Each month the Journal – which has been in print for over 70 years, and is also fully accessible online – features in-depth technical articles on key issues, and the latest sector, product, and technology-related news. Each issue also incorporates an Institute News section reporting on recent IHEEM activities and events – including IHEEM’s seminar programme – and events undertaken through the Institute’s extensive UK Branch network. This year HEJ is publishing this show

preview and show issues, and a digital event preview, giving those planning to attend the conference a flavour of what they will be able to see. Copies will be available on the HEJ stand, H54, manned by staff from the magazine’s publisher, Step Communications – which also publishes The Clinical Services Journal and The Care Home Environment. Recent issues of HEJ will also be widely distributed at the show. Step Communications also produces the annual international publication, the IFHE Digest, and The IHEEM Handbook – a comprehensive guide to the Institute, its structure, branches, key events, and the many benefits of membership of IHEEM.
