‘Virtual’ Dementia Tour New for 2022, The Virtual Dementia Tour and Autism Reality Experience will offer delegates the opportunity to walk in the shoes of people living with dementia or autism. Delegates participating will be provided with equipment that will impair their physical and sensory abilities, before being taken through a short experience on a specially designed mobile simulator, allowing them to see, hear, and feel what it might be like for people living with dementia or autism. said: “Being able to walk in the shoes of autistic people, or people living with dementia, and experience what they do, will be invaluable for anybody that either directly, or indirectly, knows or works with autistic people, or people living with dementia. The experience and the lessons learnt will help professionals in the sector – ranging from equipment manufacturers, architects, and construction companies, to carers – make simple, yet effective changes that can lead to a transformational change in how people with these conditions live their lives, that standard training solutions are unable to do. This really is a ‘must-not-miss’ experience, as the thousands of people that go through the
Welcome and thanks from IHEEM’s CEO
IHEEM’s CEO, Pete Sellars, said of Healthcare Estates 2022: “I would echo our President’s welcome on the opening page of this special HEJ event preview, and, like him, I am looking forward to returning to Manchester and to seeing everyone in person. I would like to take the opportunity to highlight some of the additional features and events that we have arranged this year for our delegates and other attendees, which you can read more about in this preview. “We have revised the structure of the conference
across four key themes, and have a keynote session featuring a number of high-profile speakers for each of them, one in the morning and one in the afternoon across the two days. We also have a world-class motivational speaker, former international rugby referee, Nigel Owens, closing the event, and there will be a free prize draw for delegates in the afternoon of the final day, so I would urge you not to miss out on that. “Delegates also have the opportunity to take a unique tour of the Manchester Civic Quarter Heat Network, including the Tower of Light and The Wall of Energy (see page 72). It is a ground-breaking scheme which I know many of our delegates will find interesting and inspiring. If you have ever wondered what the world is like for people with dementia and conditions such as ASD, meanwhile, there will be a mobile simulator that attendees can visit which replicates the different symptoms
and challenges people with those conditions face every day. It is an extraordinary installation, and in my view is a ‘must-see’ for attendees. “In addition to the main conference programme,
there are a number of one-hour interactive workshops covering a range of topics, including apprentices and their part in meeting the workforce challenges, diversity and inclusion, and strategic planning. This is an ideal opportunity for delegates to take an active part in open and frank discussions on the subjects that are relevant to our sector. All
of these additional events are available to pre-register, so I would encourage you to book your places early to avoid disappointment. “I would also like to invite all IHEEM members to visit and take
advantage of the exclusive IHEEM Members’ Area, next to the main stage. For the first time we are offering our members an informal space for them to relax and take some refreshment, to network, and to find out about the work the Institute is undertaking, as well as the opportunity to meet some of the IHEEM Head Office team, IHEEM Council, and others involved in supporting the Institute. “Finally, I would like to thank everyone who has agreed
to take part. I’m sure you will agree that it promises to be a fantastic return to our flagship event for all of our delegates, exhibitors, sponsors, and supporters.”
