A rich vein of innovation and ideas in prospect

Welcome to the Healthcare Estates Conference & Exhibition 2022 preview, where we aim to bring you a flavour of what to expect from the event next month in Manchester. Alongside the Head Office team and IHEEM Council, I am delighted that we are able to return to a fully live event, and I hope that you are looking forward to attending as much as I am. We have a packed conference programme across

our four Key Temes of Workforce, Engineering, Capital & Strategic Planning, and Net Zero. We received a record number of submissions following our call for papers, and I would like to thank the IHEEM Conference Committee for their excellent work in siſting and selecting presentations that cover a wide variety of topics, all of which demonstrate both the range of

COVER STORY

As demand increases growth continues… Growth and diversification for a leading training provider is set to deliver ‘convenient, essential training’ to healthcare estates and facilities teams UK-wide. In February, PPL Training chronicled

its last 10+ years delivering’ industry- leading’ mechanical and electrical training from its headquarters in York and Slough, detailing its acquisition of training facilities, (including heavy investment in medical gas pipeline systems training equipment, through a partnership with Medical Gas Services). It also outlined its future plans, with the introduction of a full suite of fire safety training, leveraging working relationships with Golden Thread Fire Delay and Air Projects. Drawing key lessons from HTM 05, the

Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, and The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, the company looks well positioned to provide essential

education to individuals across the fire safety management structure within NHS estates, while continuing to deliver Safe Systems of Work and technical compliance courses for FM and healthcare estates professionals ‘across the UK and beyond’. To meet growing demand, a third facility in Slough, and a first permanent base in Scotland, have been established. PPL now boasts over 50,000 ft2

of training facilities,

with 30 classrooms hosting a growing team of knowledgeable, experienced tutors who regularly deliver its own City & Guilds Accredited training courses. Continuing their long standing-

relationship, PPL was recently visited by IHEEM CEO, Pete Sellars, and COO, Tania Davies, who toured the training provider’s York facilities with MD, Gary Cooper, and Sales director, Jonathan Eland. The latter said: “It was a privilege to have Peter and Tania visit our site today, and we look forward to continuing our close Knowledge Partnership with IHEEM.”

challenges that our sector continues to face, but also the rich vein of innovation and technical and specialist expertise and knowledge that is available to meet and support those challenges. Te exhibition this year is the largest in its

history, with over 200 exhibitors, and I would encourage everyone to engage with as many of our exhibiting organisations – who will be showcasing the vital products and services they provide to our healthcare engineering and EFM sector – as possible. Tere was also a record number

of entries to the Healthcare Estates IHEEM 2022 awards, including to the three new categories: Estates & Facilities Champion of Champion; Staff Wellbeing Initiative of the

Year, and the award for Diversity & Inclusion. Te shortlisted entries are all worthy winners, and I hope you will join us at the prestigious Kimpton Clocktower Hotel on the Tuesday evening. I would like to thank all the event sponsors,

together with the Head Office team and our event partners, Step Exhibitions, for all the support and hard work that I know goes into delivering the conference, exhibition, and gala awards. I am sad that this will be my last Healthcare Estates as President of IHEEM, but I am delighted that it has returned to form, and is all set to be a very enjoyable and informative two days.
