TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT Updates

IHEEM Members’ Lounge The Institute is delighted to welcome delegates to the IHEEM Members’ Lounge at this year’s Healthcare Estates conference. This dedicated space offers members the opportunity to engage directly with the Institute, explore pathways for professional development, and connect with peers from across the healthcare engineering sector. It also provides a welcoming environment to relax, network, and exchange ideas with colleagues. Participants are encouraged to visit the IHEEM Head Office team in the lounge, where they will be available throughout the event to answer questions, offer guidance, and provide deeper insights into the Institute’s work. This is an ideal opportunity to discover more about membership benefits, routes to professional registration, and the value of belonging to a professional community committed to excellence. The Institute is also proud to welcome winners from this year’s Big Bang Competition who received the IHEEM Innovation in Wellbeing and Healthcare Engineering Award, and Young Engineer of the Year Award at the EngineeringUK event earlier in the year. They will be present in the Members’ Lounge to network with delegates and showcase their innovative projects. In addition, representatives from IHEEM Branches and Technical

and Advisory Platforms, will be on hand to share perspectives on current initiatives and highlight opportunities for involvement.

Janet Leeson – AE Medical Engineering

“I got involved as a member of the IHEEM Medical Engineering Platform and as part of this we were invited to put applications in to be part of the AE (ME) training. The IHEEM team was extremely supportive throughout the whole process from application through to the intensive training in London, and I am delighted to be one of the first AE(ME). I think this is an excellent move to bring strategic governance to hospitals which will ultimately improve patient safety.”

They can be found in the Members’ Lounge during the following drop-in sessions:

Tuesday 21st October 10:00–12:00: Technical and Advisory Platform representatives 13:00–15:00: Branch representatives

Wednesday 22nd October 10:00–12:00: Branch representatives 13:00–15:00: Technical and Advisory Platform representatives

Health Facility Briefing System Course

IHEEM, in collaboration with its knowledge partner TAHPI, introduces the Health Facility Briefing System (HFBS), a powerful web-based platform designed to support healthcare estate managers, planners, designers, and project leaders in the efficient planning, briefing, and ongoing management of healthcare facilities. The system provides access to international design standards and ready-to-use components such as briefs, room data sheets, and layout templates, all within a secure online environment. By offering a single, integrated source of project information, HFBS helps professionals save time, reduce costs, and improve accuracy across the full lifecycle of a healthcare facility, from the early stages of planning and budgeting through to asset tracking and property management. Its intuitive tools allow for the rapid creation of project briefs, detailed specifications, and reports, while built-in links to guidelines ensure that designs remain compliant, and evidence based. With modules that can be accessed on desktop or mobile, HFBS offers flexibility and consistency for teams, making it easier to streamline processes, collaborate effectively, and deliver healthcare projects with greater efficiency and confidence. The next Health Facility Briefing System Course will be taking place on 26-27 November 2025. To register for this course please complete the booking form found at: https://www.iheem.org.uk/events/health-facility-briefing-system-november
