ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE SPORTRADAR

Sportradar:

How AI powered sports- books are shaping the sports betting industry

Artificial Intelligence is changing the face of the sports betting industry. Forward-thinking bookmakers are already utilising the technology

daily to streamline operations and drive business forward. Sportradar's recent whitepaper, 'How AI powered sportsbooks are shaping the sports betting industry', explores what this ground-breaking

technology is capable of, how it’s redefining the way sportsbooks are managed, and what the future could look like. Paolo Personeni, EVP of Managed Betting Services, addresses the key points raised.

How would you assess the utilisation of AI - and its subsequent insights - in sports betting relative to other industries?

Tere is some interesting information on the use of AI within the business world. For example, a Gartner survey showed that 10 per cent of organisations were using AI in 2015, a figure that rose to 37 per cent four years later in 2019. Tat’s significant growth and I don’t see that trend changing any time soon.

In comparison, I think the sports betting industry has been a little slow in the adoption of AI technology, a point which is highlighted in a recent Sportradar survey of global bookmakers. While 71 per cent of operators believe AI and machine learning technologies will be a game changer in the betting industry, half the respondents still aren’t implementing artificial intelligence in their operations.

Tere’s great potential for operators to unlock using this technology. Te growing popularity of sports betting has created a deep pool of data that operators can use to better understand their customers and operations. To process this depth of data and extract meaningful insights that enhance business performance, operators

require sophisticated AI technology. It is an increasingly important aspect of any sportsbook operator’s playbook.

Are these insights being applied throughout every area of a bookmakers' business - from budgeting and trading to marketing and forecasting finances - or in select areas of the operation?

Absolutely they are - data-driven insights are fuelling a diverse range of AI applications which operators are using on a daily basis. Top to bottom, there are sophisticated AI models that

By deploying advanced machine learning, deep learning or computer vision technologies, sophisticated AI models are optimising all aspects of an operator's business including budgeting and trading, as well as marketing and forecasting finances. Critically, these are insights that don’t need to be gleaned using manual processes – AI automates their collection, translation, and visualisation into a comprehensive display.

In future, perhaps the most attention-grabbing use of the technology will be the capability to power real 1:1 player experiences.

From the subsets of AI flagged in the white paper - namely machine learning, deep learning and computer vision - which holds the most potential to maximise efficiency and drive innovation in the sports betting space?

We are already benefiting from machine learning and deep learning, but computer vision is a completely new frontier. Tat’s why we’re especially excited by the potential that we’ve
