expensively and readily through distribution are now highly con- strained. For very high-end com- ponents, processors, BGAs, FP- GAs, and purpose-built ICs, we see a severely constrained mar- ket.
We utilize stocking distribu-
tors for many of our needs. In this economy and given the con- straints and shortages, they may not have stock for extended peri- ods. This creates issues at both
sites when we have a partially assembled kit in the stockroom that we can’t release to man- ufacturing. Our demand tends

Feeder Repair Kits from
Count On Tools, Inc Each Feeder Repair Kit includes:
a precision machined (not cast) side cover plate with new plow installed, replacement feeder spring, new screws, and matching Barcode ID.
Customers are required to provide COT with the Feeder ID located on the barcode found on side of the original feeder side plate or by scanning the feeder ID chip with their equipment. COT is not responsible for incorrect barcodes due to customer error when supplying Feeder ID’s.
to be somewhat linear throughout the year. We have a solid cadence of bookings month-to- month. Labor absorp- tion becomes hard to balance with intermit- tent releases to produc- tion. It’s feast or famine; we get critical materials that allow releasing jobs to the floor in clusters. When that happens, we’re able to transform and ship to our cus- tomers on time. At the same time, we have kits waiting in the stockroom pending critical items.
We’ve taken a progressive
approach to relieving the inter- mittency issue. If the critical items are not surface mount parts, we release the job. We then merge the support-
ing items in transit as we manu- facture the product. This reduces the overall time in the transfor- mation process internally and al- lows us to ship to our customers sooner. We have seen some upward
pressure relating to energy costs and other infrastructure costs of operations. Quite frankly those are secondary to the supply chain constraints. We’d be more able to take those in stride if they weren’t in addition to the already constrained supply chain that’s causing us to be pe- riodically under-absorbed.
OUTSOURCING MACHINED PARTS? ASK US ABOUT OUR PRECISION MANUFACTURING SERVICES.
Did you know that Count On Tools is more than just a nozzle manufac- turer? We also operate a state-of-the-art machine shop where all of our precision components are manufactured. Because extreme accuracy is mandatory, specialized precision equipment is necessary. COT operates with the most advanced hybrid machining centers offering multi-spin- dle/multi-axis CNC milling and turning capabilities. From prototype to long term supply, COT can handle your outsourced precision machined components.

Easing Ahead We are starting to see dupli-
cate orders be taken out of the system. That relieves some of the front-end pressure on de- mand. Available components will eventually be pushed to dis- tribution. We do believe that there’s going to be easing of de- mand, as the duplicate demand is pulled back and OEMs are able to manufacture more prod- uct to satisfy real demand. Regarding logistics, and
shipping, we don’t rely on long- haul carriers for our shipments. We provide local delivery and
utilize common carriers for out- of-area shipments. This isn’t a serious concern for us, but we do monitor increases in fuel costs as they are an element of our deliv- ery service. We are providing produc-
tion-quality prototyping to vali- date designs and concepts and taking it immediately into pro- duction. Naprotek is laser-fo- cused on low-to-medium volume, very high mix, and high rate of change products.
Larry Morrissey, Naprotek's general manager.
Given the complexity of our
customers’ requirements, we must have a specialized work- force to accommodate their needs. This demands that we have the capability to continu- ously support increasing techni- cal challenges. NexLogic provides added ca-
pacity and focus for large form- factor product in support of test and instrumentation and med- ical markets. With the acquisi- tion, we also moved farther up- stream in production, with four lines to support increasing de- mand. SemiGen, located in Lon-
donderry, New Hampshire, brings us RF product capability, including semiconductor prod- ucts, services, and thin-film pro- cessing.
There are a few key factors
at play. One is a ferocious pur- suit of quality at all levels. Naprotek’s reputation is based on quality and customer service and those two things are inextri- cably linked. We have a well-es- tablished reputation for provid- ing very reliable products in our markets. NPI programs can often
trend toward “proof of concept” only. Programs are time-sensi- tive, with engineers waiting for product. Providers often pursue time as the singular goal with little emphasis on quality. Naprotek’s key differentiator is that we get working product back to the customer with a very high level of quality. Contact: Naprotek, LLC, 90
