Building a Sustainable Business Environment
Helistrat’s Head of Sustainability, Nathan Gray shares five key methods to embed sustainable practices for commercial and ethical rewards.
The best way to improve the performance of waste and recycling is to stop material being generated in the first place. This is easier said than done. We live in a throw away society where consume and dispose is second nature. There is no doubting the fact that people have a greater awareness and understanding of recycling but for many, this is limited to selecting the right container for their waste. At this point, people feel discharged of any further obligation. This is a linear approach to waste management and the shift that all businesses need to start to make is towards a circular one.
Helistrat, a leading sustainability management consultancy, enables numerous blue-chip brands to embrace and benefit from the circular economy. Nathan Gray, Head of Sustainability, takes a look at some practical ways that businesses can embed sustainability into their organisation and realise the commercial and environmental benefits this has to offer.
TOP 1. Set a Strategy
Short term goals hinder our ability to influence mid to long term change and output. We need to find ways to circumvent ‘business as usual’ and empower people to think longer term and find ways to measure and evaluate performance over longer periods of time.
