Information technology is part of the programme and testing of the Trust’s corporate head-quarters at Wayside House in Coventry takes place to ensure that vital communications equipment remains safe and compliant.
A number of special measures ensure that engineers can work safely in public areas and where there are children, young people and vulnerable adults. Engineers receive enhanced security checks before attending site, and attend the Trust’s own in-house induction programme. This covers specific areas of training such as on-site health and safety and reporting procedures.
Case Study Calbarrie has provided electrical compliance services to Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust since 2016. The Trust was formed in 2006 and works from more than 65 sites including 124 buildings and covers around 900 square miles. It provides an extensive range of mental health, learning disability and community services to a population of more than one million people in Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull.
The programme involves testing of non-medical equipment and electrical installations in clinical and non- clinical areas across the Trust’s primary and community care estates. Locations include patient wards, nurses’ stations, kitchens, rest areas, day care rooms and public areas. One of the older sites to be tested is the City of Coventry Health Centre situated on the old Coventry & Warwickshire Hospital site which provides a wide variety of community health services to adults and children.

In locations where there could be more risk to patients the engineer is accompanied by a Trust representative for the duration of time on site. Site management procedures are also specific to the Trust’s requirements and, whilst it is normally sufficient to cordon off a work area with barriers and signage, engineers who test in locations where there may be vulnerable people operate in pairs and never leave exposed installations unattended.
Communication and careful planning are key to the successful delivery of the Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust testing programme, and scheduling is dynamic and agreed at the pre-start survey and review meetings. Calbarrie’s contract management team works closely with the Trust’s Estates Compliance Team throughout the programme to ensure that disruption to vital services is avoided and testing services are efficient and productive.
