There are inherent risks in adopting smart security systems. It is therefore imperative that FMs are aware of these potential pitfalls as well as the benefits argues Justin Freeman, Technical Manager of The Master Locksmiths Association (MLA).


Think smart security might offer improvements in safety, security and, most of all, convenience? So do many of the people we speak to. Whether operated by fingerprint, swipe card, smart phone or facial recognition, smart security offers the potential to control building access remotely and the promise of being able to get rid of that bulky set of keys (plus the risk of losing them).

As a result, the popularity of smart security systems is increasing - and fast. We’re continuing to see smart security in demand across UK domestic, commercial and public buildings. With ever-more sophisticated operating systems, smart security can increasingly be integrated with existing CCTV and alarm systems, whilst perhaps most useful of all, smart locks are highly configurable.
