ROBERT SCOTT WELCOMES HYGIENE SCORE ANNOUNCEMENT

FROM LGA The Local Government Association (LGA) has said that all takeaway outlets and restaurants in England should be made to display their food hygiene scores by law, which has been welcomed by cleaning hardware manufacturer Robert Scott.

The LGA, which represents councils in England, says the move should be made as part of post-Brexit legislation.

Alastair Scott, Sales Director of Robert Scott, said: “On one hand, it seems to be something of a no-brainer – why would you not want to advertise the fact that your restaurant has a high level of cleanliness and hygiene standards and, on the other hand,

NEW ATTENDANCE RECORD FOR CMS

2017 The International Cleaning Trade Fair CMS Berlin 2017 – Cleaning. Management.Services. hosted 23,000 industry representatives from 70 different countries from 19 to 22 September, including 18,300 trade visitors from every branch of the cleaning sector.

This represents an increase of more than 10% compared with CMS 2015. The 429 exhibitors from 24 countries provided an overview of the market across 29,000m² in the halls and outdoor display areas.

In the exhibition and conference sections the topic du jour was digitalisation. This was reflected at the trade fair, which featured a wealth of innovations, including some cleaning machines and cleaning products that were making their world debut.

consumers should have easy access to the standards of an establishment they intend to visit.

“The lack of a visible hygiene rating in a business means that customers are left in the dark on official kitchen cleanliness levels when eating or buying food there. As this announcement follows quickly on the heels of the recent disclosures by BBC’s Watchdog programme, which found unacceptable levels of bacteria in some of the country’s leading restaurant chains, it’s again highlighted the need for us, as an industry, to do all we can to help the catering sector fulfil their obligations to the paying public.

“This whole issue should raise the level of concern regarding the cleaning of all food preparation surfaces, floors and dining tables, and ensuring that the right products and training for their use are used for each potentially hazardous surface area.”

‘Cleaning in a Digital World – Processes, People, Technology’ was the keynote subject of the 22nd Congress of the World Federation of Building Service Contractors (WFBSC, 18-20 September) with 540 participants from 43 countries.

Dr. Christian Göke, Chief Executive Officer of Messe Berlin GmbH, said:

Northern Ireland, helps consumers choose where to eat out or shop for food by giving them information about the hygiene standards in restaurants, takeaways and food shops.

It’s not easy to judge hygiene standards on appearance alone so the rating gives potential customers an idea of what’s going on in the kitchen or behind closed doors, and has been designed to encourage businesses to improve hygiene standards.

“As expected, CMS 2017 was the leading event for the global cleaning community. More than ever before it proved to be the premium product among international cleaning trade fairs. The quality that was evident in the exhibition section, the marked increase in the numbers of international trade visitors, and the many innovations on show here were among the criteria that made this year’s trade fair so outstanding. This view was shared unanimously by the exhibitors, trade visitors and the trade press.”

The next CMS Berlin will take place on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds from 24 to 27 September 2019.
