An update from the Institute

Neil Spencer-Cook, Group MD of The British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc), reflects on an incredibly successful few months for the Institute.

BICSc has had an outstanding few months, and I wanted to take a moment to look back on all the achievements we’ve had the privilege to be part of.

The BICSc Awards were once again a huge success, with the spotlight shining brighter than ever on the fantastic members of the industry. On 25 September, we gathered in the Atrium at Whittlebury Hall & Spa to celebrate the very best in our industry. It was wonderful to see the BICSc mission being championed by such fantastic finalists, who were all deserving of recognition and should all be incredibly proud of themselves. This sparkling event would not have been possible without the incredible support of our sponsors, so a huge thank you to all the sponsors for making it all happen.

This year’s event was truly our best yet, and it’s been lovely to receive so much positive feedback from attendees, hearing that everyone agrees about the bar constantly being raised. We’re already looking forward to next year’s celebration on 17 September 2026 at Whittlebury once again. It will be hard to top this year’s fantastic evening, especially with our guest speaker, Shaun Williamson, who was a real highlight – he even performed songs throughout the night and lifted everyone’s spirits impossibly higher. I hope to see you all there again to find out how we exceed this year’s celebration.

Of course, the BICSc Awards weren’t the only event keeping us busy. We also had an incredible time at Home, Life & You, which turned out to be our busiest show yet, which was a fantastic achievement for the whole team. It was wonderful to meet and chat with so many people at the BICSc stand, where our brand new training cloths proved extremely popular and were nearly all gone by Saturday afternoon.

26 | TOMORROW'S CLEANING

It was great to see how well our colour-coding message resonated with the domestic market. After all, no one wants to use their bathroom cloth on their kitchen surfaces. Our on-stage presentations also went brilliantly, with inspiring speakers and engaging discussions pushing forward important industry messages. Congratulations to Penny and her team for putting on such a successful show, and we look forward to attending again in the future.

We’ve also been working hard on collaborations with other companies as we prepare for upcoming events. One key highlight will be the BICSc Conference in December, where some of the industry’s leading voices will share their latest findings and innovations. Events like this truly demonstrate the value of collaboration and how it drives progress within our sector, and so I hope to see you all there to celebrate the work of the industry.

Continuing to look ahead, we’re excited about the final 2025 edition of our publication, The Standard, which will focus on awards and collaboration. Within our industry, it’s vital that all major organisations share consistent and positive messages to empower and ensure safety across all operatives. We’re proud to play our part by featuring industry leaders in our next issue and giving them the space to explain what they do, why they do it and how it benefits their audiences. So, make sure you keep an eye out on the BICSc website to read the edition when it’s published at the start of December.

It's been fantastic to reflect on these past months of achievement, and I can’t wait to see what BICSc will accomplish next.
