News Sponsored by Sue Ryder gets deep cleaning support

The NHS Deep Cleaning and Advisory Service has completed bespoke training for Sue Ryder cleaning staff and follow-up audits of its premises.

The charity, which runs hospices and specialist neurological care centres across the country, brought in the NHS Deep Cleaning and Advisory Service in order to ensure that staff, patients and visitors feel reassured with the extra layer of cleaning protocols in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

The NHS Deep Cleaning and Advisory Service trained the hospice and neurological care centre staff in ‘Cleaning the NHS Way’, the first ever programme for domestic cleaning to be accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health. The training is delivered by the NHS Deep Cleaning and Advisory Service’s founders, NTH Solutions.

On top of training, each hospice and neurological care centre was audited, and offered additional guidance and

assurance on cleaning protocols, as well as certification for all cleaning staff in attendance.

Sue Ryder’s Ian Peri said: “Receiving accredited training and on-site support for our staff from the NHS Deep Cleaning and Advisory Service has gone a long way in ensuring that sense of security for both our staff and our patients.”

Mike Worden, Managing Director of the NHS Deep Cleaning and Advisory Service, said: “Partnerships such as this one with Sue Ryder provide the public with all of the experience and expertise in the NHS standard of cleanliness, as well as the reassurance we were giving to the doctors and patients at the height of the first wave in our hospital that it was a covid safe environment. Improving our public cleaning is key not only for coming out of the pandemic, but for reducing the risk of another pandemic in the future.”

Healthcare training for World Hand Hygiene Day

professionals to train whenever and wherever they want.”

Tork Clean Hands Training invites users into a digital world where they are presented with a series of scenarios in which hand hygiene needs to be carried out. Developed in collaboration with behavioural scientists, university hospitals and hand hygiene experts, the course aims to provide hand hygiene guidance in an engaging and inspiring way.

Available in English, German, Polish, Dutch, French, Spanish and Arabic, the training was a category winner at the 2020 Amsterdam Innovation Awards.

According to a 2017 study, 80% of healthcare professionals would like to improve their hand hygiene compliance but many find traditional training modules to be uninspiring. Six out of 10 said they would like hand hygiene to be given a higher priority in their unit, while 40% called for better training.

Essity’s award-winning Tork VR Clean Hands Training can now be accessed free of charge via any electronic device.

Based on the World Health Organization's (WHO) Five Moments for Hand Hygiene, the module previously required the use of a virtual reality headset. By creating a desktop version, Essity has made it easier than ever for healthcare staff to access effective hand hygiene guidance. The new training platform was launched in time for World Hand Hygiene Day on 5 May.

Tom Bergin, Essity’s Healthcare Marketing Director, said: “Hand hygiene has always been crucial in healthcare and the pandemic has made it even more so. Healthcare professionals are carrying out tremendous work to secure hand hygiene compliance to protect their patients and themselves, but they are also seeking ways to improve.

“By making Tork Clean Hands Training available on desktop and other platforms we are empowering healthcare

Tom continued: “Any improvement to hand hygiene compliance has the potential to save lives, so we are proud to be making our training more accessible for healthcare professionals. We are further supporting improved hand hygiene practices with our range of high-quality sanitiser systems for use in demanding environments.”

Tork liquid and gel hand sanitisers are available in various dispensing systems for maximum efficacy and convenience, and a wide range of user-friendly soaps and hand towels are also available.

The theme of this year’s WHO World Hand Hygiene Day is: ‘Seconds save lives – clean your hands!’ The event focuses on the life-saving importance of clean hands in a global context. According to the WHO, appropriate hand hygiene reduces the risk of COVID-19 infections among healthcare workers and prevents up to 50% of avoidable infections acquired during healthcare delivery.
