Tomorrow’s Contract Floors visited the ninth edition of Clerkenwell Design Week from 22nd
–24th
May. Here, we present updates from some of the leading companies who took part.

Bona and Timbered introduce Inspiration Floor Styles at Clerkenwell
Bona partnered with Timbered Flooring, a Bona Certified Contractor company, to launch the Bona Inspiration floor styling system at Clerkenwell Design Week.
Visitors to Timbered’s new Clerkenwell showroom, which was bedecked with huge Inspiration sample boards for the occasion, responded enthusiastically to the beautiful textured surfaces, finished with Bona lacquers, oils and colours in 17 different ways. Supplies of the leave-behind brochure were flying out of the showroom with designers keen to share them with clients and to encourage upcycling of existing wood floors as part of their design schemes.
Timbered Flooring MD, Laurence Warburton said: “The business that’s going to develop from this is solely interior designers and architects specifying Bona’s floor styling to their clients. The brushing system is the key element to develop texture on the surface and to get away from the LVT laminates and fake wood.
“For me, the campaign is breaking boundaries and is what’s been required in the flooring industry for many years. From my experience in dealing with clients and architects they often want a new floor supplied because we simply haven’t been able to achieve the look they have seen on Pinterest for example. Now, with the new brushing technique we can pretty much re-create a new workshop quality finish on site and this opens the doors to new clients, new contracts and new possibilities. From now on, we’re not going to be disposing of old floors but rather renewing them!”

Kährs Embraces the Rawness of Nature
Global wood flooring brand Kährs celebrated a theme of ‘Raw Design’ at London’s Clerkenwell Design Week 2018, with the launch of their new nature-inspired and sustainable ultra matt engineered wood flooring collections – Lux and Lumen.
Over the three days, visitors headed over to the Kährs Design Studio, at 5 Albemarle Way, to meet the Kährs team and enjoy refreshments on the sunny roof top terrace. Products were displayed in an inspirational gallery style using easels, both inside the building and outside.
Kährs’ Specification and Design Consultant, Chris Parker, held two Raw Design workshops per day – where visitors enjoyed a half hour interactive demonstration of the new ultra matt wood flooring designs, and learnt more about the ways nature can influence and inspire interior design and architectural decisions – followed by some networking and bubbly on the terrace.
Showcased throughout the event, the new ultra matt collections Lux and Lumen joined the Kährs collection earlier this year. The designs embrace nature by having minimal light reflection - giving the floors a look of newly sawn timber and ensuring the floors maintain and enhance the natural beauty of wood.

The award-winning Lux collection, which took Gold award for Best Flooring 2017 in the House Beautiful Awards, features nine floors spanning from the milky white Ash Air to the earthy, deep-smoked Oak Terra. Kährs' Lumen Collection offers eight mirrored three-strip and two-strip designs to complement Lux, or offer an alternative interior look. All of the new designs feature a brushed effect, accentuating the natural grain of the wood.
