FLOORCOVERINGS MARKET BOOSTED BY DEMAND FOR

CHILDREN’S FLOORING The new 2018 floorcoverings market report from MTW Research suggests the children’s carpet market continues to underpin optimism for the floorcoverings market, whilst wood and laminate sales continue to grow share of the UK flooring market.

Based on flooring sales of more than £4bn, the report identifies several growth trends such as the ‘mini-baby-boom’ in 2012 underpinning healthy growth for the children’s floorcoverings market in 2018.

The report forecasts growth of 17% for children’s floorings and identifies some of the key trends and fashions in the sector.

F. BALL APPOINTS DCP QATAR AS DISTRIBUTOR

FOR QATAR Leading manufacturer of flooring adhesives and subfloor preparation products, F. Ball and Co. Ltd, has appointed DCP Qatar as the distributor of its products in the State of Qatar. This strategic partnership reflects the growing demand for construction products across the Middle East, with accelerated growth in construction work expected for Qatar ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament, which is being hosted in the country.

DCP Qatar will hold stock and distribute a range of F. Ball products selected to reflect the specific demands and needs of the Qatari market.

Experts from F. Ball will travel to Qatar to undertake extensive product training with the DCP Qatar sales team to equip them with the knowledge that will enable them to make confident product recommendations and draw up project specifications.

The support provided by F. Ball’s Recommended Adhesives Guide (RAG), which guarantees the correct adhesive is recommended for any particular floorcovering, ensured DCP Qatar was able to select the most appropriate products to stock from the start of

Ball products has been growing throughout the Middle East for a number of years, with the region witnessing a prolonged period of construction growth. Qatar, with the forthcoming World Cup finals, is also witnessing a marked growth

in demand, which we believe will continue as part of Qatar's ongoing development plans."

The 230-page report reviews the likely impact of Brexit and, 10 years on, the impact of the recession on the UK floorcoverings market. The economic crisis of 2008/9 resulted in suppliers of carpets, tiles, wood, and laminate flooring losing some £1bn in potential revenue in the last 10 years, according to the report. Counting the cost of Brexit, MTW suggest that sales growth of 1-2% per annum could be lost by the market in the next few years as a result of the UK leaving the EU.

Housebuilding and house-moving remains strong in the UK, sustaining the domestic carpets market as well as the wood flooring market. New flooring applications in new build homes also represent a healthy market in 2018 stimulated by almost 190,000 new homes each year, according to MTW.

The floorcoverings market encompasses greater sophistication than ever according to MTW, with enhanced marketing and segmentation tactics offering flooring manufacturers reasonably healthy growth opportunities in 2018.

Sales in the domestic and commercial floorcoverings market are set to return to pre-recession levels by 2021 according to MTW. Whilst flooring manufacturers and retailers experience complex challenges in 2018, such as pricing pressure and share changes across distribution channels, overall growth prospects remain positive.

MTW’s report is available from their website or by calling 08456 524324 priced from £595+vat.
