CARPET & CARPET TILES
FROM WASTE TO WEAVE
In connection with efforts to reduce the firm's carbon footprint, Danish carpet manufacturer ege carpets is now launching a new collection, Carré Modular, which is produced from materials recycled from the company's own waste products.
Every year ege carpets produces more than five million square metres of carpets. This means that the company also produces huge quantities of waste yarn. Instead of disposing of this waste, in cooperation with fibre manufacturer Aquafil, the carpet manufacturer has developed a method by which to reuse the waste yarn in the company's own production. This is a new approach to production and one which has created the foundation for a new range of ege carpets' featuring sustainable carpet collections under the Ecoline by ege brand.
"We work consistently to develop carpet concepts that impact the environment as little as possible. It is of paramount importance to us

that we can provide the market with new collections that are eco-friendly and sustainable, and produced under responsible conditions. Carré Modular is sustainable because a large proportion of the product is recycled material. It also means that significantly less energy goes into producing these products," Steen Bjørn explains, ege carpets' Product Development Manager.
He says that the recycled waste yarn is collected from ege carpets' three manufacturing facilities at Herning, Gram and Vejle in Denmark.
"At least 70% of the content in these carpets is recycled. So we've made it easier for architects, designers and
decision-makers to select eco-friendly flooring without compromising their requirements for design and quality", Steen continues.
With a declared aim to reduce the company's environmental impact and CO2
companies and open office environments but also architects, designers and others who are advocates of sustainable design and therefore consciously select sustainable products, where this is possible,” Steen says.

product development department is firmly committed to developing new collections that have the least possible impact on the environment. In addition to Carré Modular, the Ecoline by ege range includes the Barcode Econyl 70 carpet tiles collection.
"We are convinced that sustainability is imperative to our future and something that consumers value highly. We expect Carré Modular to attract not only large
He emphasises that focus on the environmental area is in fact nothing new for ege carpets. The company publishes an environmental report and a climate report every year. Last year, ege carpets published its first CSR report, listing accomplishments in the company's work on focus issues including the environment, safety at work, health and employees' well-being.
