You are what you know

If you want to ensure that your business is a cut above the rest, the new BICSc Training Centres in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, mean that you can better yourself and your team and, ultimately, your reputation

Since its establishment over 50 years ago, The British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) has continued its campaign to raise awareness of the necessity of accredited training and standards for the cleaning industry. As the organisation has continued to grow within the industry we have also seen the establishment of BICS Business Services (BBS) and BICS International to facilitate the delivery of BICSc accredited training throughout the UK and Internationally.

Northern Ireland BBS are delighted to announce that BELBclean (Belfast Education & Library Board) have successfully won the contract to deliver BICSc Accredited Training in Northern Ireland. BELBclean have been delivering BICSc training for many years and have delivered training in a full range of BICSc Qualifications. BELBclean’s key objective is to provide advice, support and training that will enhance the quality of the cleaning service and contribute to a safe and clean environment to the wider community.

As Gary Keenan from BELBclean explains: “The mission of the British Institute of Cleaning Science is: ‘To raise the standards of education and to build awareness of the cleaning industry through professional standards and accredited training’. This is a perfect fit to our mission statement and identified themes of ‘improving

standards; developing people; meeting needs; strengthening partnerships and optimising resources. Belbclean are delighted to continue with this mission in partnership with BICSc for the greater good of the cleaning industry and the cleaning operative at all levels.”

Republic of Ireland BICS International is proud to confirm that Diversey Inc. are in the final stages of becoming a BICSc Accredited Training Centre for the delivery of BICSc accredited training in the Republic of Ireland.

As Stephen Braiser, from Diversey explains: “We, at Diversey, consider it a great privilege to have been awarded the exclusive contract to deliver BICSc Accredited Training to the cleaning industry in Ireland. This is an ideal partnership that gives us the opportunity to combine Diverseys' Global knowledge of sustainable cleaning solutions with BICSc accredited standards. We are looking forward to launching the training modules and to playing a key role in raising standards within the industry.”

CPSS Both BELBclean and Diversey will be providing training in the BICSc Cleaning Professional Skills Suite (CPSS) qualification. Launched in March 2011, CPSS is becoming the most widely used cleaning qualification in the UK and internationally. The CPSS

qualification includes three mandatory units, designed to ensure the safety of the cleaning operatives and the users of the building, and for the sustainability of the building. Additional core skills such as mop sweeping, wall washing and glass cleaning and specialist skills are also available.

Though the CPSS qualification, candidates will be awarded their unique BICSc Licence to Practice and a practitioner grade membership to the Institute for three years. The BICSc Licence to Practice ensures that a cleaning operative is competent in the necessary entry level skills to perform their role, including chemical competence, equipment safe use and care and the safe storage of equipment and materials.

Furthermore, the Licence to Practice is the first of number stepping stones for an operative to further their career through education and accredited training as the scheme assumes no prior knowledge and requires no prior training of how to perform basic cleaning operations.
