17 Pumps, Valves & Liquid Handling New Variable Volume Dispense Pump Guide

Dispense pumps generate the fluid movement needed for aspirating and dispensing spe¬cific volumes of fluid. The system’s requirements, including accuracy, pressure, flow rate, fluidic properties, longevity, and reliability will determine the type of pump needed for your application.

The Lee Co has just published a very comprehensive technical guide for the operation of their variable volume pumps. This guide provides extensive information for determining how to use Lee variable volume pumps effectively and efficiently in your designs.

Split into nine sections - pump mechanics, pump operation, fluid properties, common fluidic circuits, application development kits, best practices, troubleshooting and a glossary of terms - it looks at the key considerations when selecting a pump to best meet the needs of your application.

As a leading provider of high quality pumps and valves, The Lee Company understands the varied demands and requirements of fluidic, electrical, and mechanical pump operation.

The guide distils the company’s in-depth knowledge of pumping solutions for numerous applications into clear and easy-to-understand explanations of the factors that need to be considered. It is essential reading for anyone using variable volume pumps.

Lee variable volume pumps are intended for a long and maintenance-free life, even when dispensing aggressive fluids. These pumps are designed with innovative solutions developed by The Lee Company to minimise wear and maintain performance over the life of the pump.

The Lee Company offers a wide variety of variable volume pump models, along with options to further customise performance to meet the needs of specific applications. Visit the website or contact your local Lee Technical Sales Engineer to learn more.

New Microelution Sample Preparation Workstation Launched

Biotage is pleased to announce the launch of the new Biotage® Extrahera™ LV-200 - a compact, automated sample preparation workstation, dedicated to 96 well arrays for microelution technologies and classical Supported Liquid Extraction (SLE), Solid Phase Extraction (SPE), Phospholipid Detection (PLD) and Protein Precipitation (PPT) formats.

The new Biotage® Extrahera™ LV-200 workstation is a GLP capable solution dedicated to 96 well arrays for microelution technologies. Using its 8-channel pipette head the LV-200 will precisely aspirate and dispense low volumes from 5 - 800 mL. The new system enables users to streamline pipetting by selecting up to three different pipette tips confi gurations within SLE or SPE workfl ows. Complete with comprehensive clean-up methods for biological fl uids, the system comes pre-programmed with Biotage application notes, user-friendly prompts to assist in method building, and new features such as ‘SMART’ pipetting to prevent aspirating air into samples.

Like its predecessor, the Biotage® Extrahera™ LV-200 workstation has the same low maintenance design, intuitive software interface and enhanced data management tools of the Extrahera family. Where customer laboratory space is at a premium, the system’s compact footprint enables customers to optimise laboratory space.

“Biotage® Extrahera™ workstations have become reliable workhorses within forensic, clinical, and doping laboratories worldwide. At their heart is a robust positive pressure system for the consistent processing of all samples. The new Biotage® Extrahera™ LV-200 will help to transform automated sample preparation through its precision engineering, intuitive software, and fl exible column/plate formats,” said Dan Menasco, PhD, Global Product Manager, Biotage.

Nerbe plus Premium Surface low retention pipette tips are now available in the UK exclusively from Alpha Laboratories Ltd. These top-quality tips are optimised for the highest precision and reproducibility in a pipetting cycle. The ultra-smooth hydrophobic surfaces prevent loss of material through adsorption and reduces DNA denaturation. These qualities improve effi ciencies of test sequences by cutting down on costs associated with expensive reagents.

The accuracy of Premium Surface tips is not affected by the physical properties of your sample, enabling you to achieve perfect results in liquid handling, even when dealing with challenging solutions.

The viscosity, volatility, surface tension and temperature of your solution in particular can negatively infl uence pipetting quality. Viscous liquids such as glycerol leave residues in the tip during pipetting. This adversely affects the accuracy and precision of the desired result. With Premium Surface tips this is no longer a problem. Material loss of your valuable reagents and denaturation of DNA are therefore a thing of the past.

The NEW Premium Surface Tip Range Optimised for the highest precision and reproducibility in a pipetting cycle ■ Ultra-smooth hydrophobic surface enables perfect

results even with the most challenging solutions ■ Available sterile and non-sterile

These tips will revolutionise your daily laboratory work with continuous residue-free pipetting. They provide you with maximum precision and accuracy when aspirating and dispensing your sample material, to ensure your best results and success.

Premium Surface tips are made from outstanding medical grade PP granules giving them unparalleled transparency. The fi lter tip options contain sophisticated fi lter material with optimum pore density. Their universal fi t means they are compatible with all common pipettes on the market, either single or multichannel models.
