Effi cient, Low Maintenance Evaporator Porvair Sciences announces that its Ultravap®
Mistral XT 150 blowdown evaporator is now able to operate at temperatures up to 80°C thereby signifi cantly
increasing the rate of evaporation of both organic solvents and aqueous solutions. Designed to provide dry down of samples in microplates and glass tubes up to 150 mm in length, the Ultravap®
safe alternative to using water bath-based evaporators.
Nearly all common chromatography solvents including acetonitrile, dichloromethane, hexane, methanol and water can be evaporated with ease by the Ultravap® Mistral XT150. The availability of straight or spiral blowdown evaporator needles allows users to choose between faster dry down (spiral) or optimised fi nal drying in V-well microplates (straight).
Operated via an intuitive colour touchscreen, the Ultravap® Mistral XT150 comes complete with clear safety side screens and integral solvent fume management
within the unit. Installation of the blow-down evaporator requires only connection to a gas supply and mains electricity. Safety of solvent removal operation is ensured as this compact CE marked unit fi ts into all fume cupboards.

A new range of centrifuges by Labtech is available from Analytix that comprises 16 models divided into 4 families including micro-units, benchtop, and fl oor standing systems. New Conical Tubes Enable Single-handed Operation
The new Eppendorf Conical Tube SnapTec 50 offers all the advantages of classic conical tubes 50 mL. The decisive, innovative detail is the SnapTec closure. A snap-on lid that can be opened and closed with one hand and is fi rmly attached to the vessel so that it does not come into contact with the laboratory bench. The risk of cross-contamination is reduced and confusion with other lids is eliminated. In addition, the SnapTec 50 vessel is autoclavable, which opens up further application possibilities. Its precise dimensions ensure maximum compatibility with centrifuge rotors, mixers and shakers.
Typical applications for conical tubes are mainly found in cell culture, bacterial culture, and protein or DNA/RNA extraction. Most important in these applications is contamination-free handling and a smooth workfl ow. Fast and safe opening and closing as well as autoclavability of such vessels contribute signifi cantly to meeting these requirements.
