9 Incubators, Freezers & Cooling Equipment New R&D Freeze Dryer Speeds Biopharmaceuticals to Market

The SP Hull LyoStar® 4.0 is now launched and exclusively available from Biopharma Group in the UK, Ireland and France.

The LyoStar 4.0 freeze dryer has been developed to enhance R&D and process development, including scale-up, to improve speed to market of biopharmaceutical products, representing a significant advancement in freeze dryer engineering.

As a pilot-scale freeze dryer, the LyoStar 4.0 offers superior shelf mapping, rapid shelf freezing, process accuracy and reliability. It also includes an innovative suite of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) tools supplementing SP’s Line of Sight™ technologies. Additionally, an eco-friendly refrigerant gas is used to help comply with sustainability and environmental impact legislation.

“The LyoStar 4.0 has been specifically designed and manufactured with the needs of the research and cycle development scientist in mind. It offers design characteristics similar to our large production freeze dryers for faster delivery of a biopharmaceutical product to market,” said Ian Whitehall, CMO

at SP.

Ideal for rapid lyo cycle development, optimisation and scale-up, the LyoStar 4.0 incorporates the latest innovations in freeze drying technology to ensure precise process control and reliability. To enable this, a number of upgradeable PAT tools are included: LyoFlux® TDLAS sensors for vapour mass flow measurement, AutoMTM/SMART™ technology - a primary drying cycle optimisation tool, ControLyo® Nucleation Technology for accurate freezing point control, a 3D modelling package for computational fluid dynamics and process monitoring, plus Tempris® wireless sensors for real-time product temperature measurement.

The flexibility to scale-up or down is an important aspect in the process for developing pharmaceutical compounds. The LyoStar 4.0 also has the same 21 CFR Part 11 compatible software (optional) and efficient refrigeration technology as the LyoConstellation range. As a part of SP’s Line of Sight approach, we overcome critical lyophilisation challenges during development, scale-up and manufacturing of biologicals, thus enabling greater regulatory compliance.

Water is one of the most precious resources yet it is still commonly used as coolant in many laboratories. Most water used as a coolant is not recycled leading to increased laboratory costs.

A range of 11 recirculating chillers by Labtech is available from Analytix that have excellent cooling capabilities for all applications. The systems offer cooling power from 0.5kw to 9kw providing temperatures -20°C to 35°C. Each system is floor standing with 4 heavy duty casters for easy transportation inside the laboratory.

Cool and Contemporary Incubators Provide Solid Performance

The IC range of Cooled Incubators from LTE Scientifi c combine contemporary design with solid, reliable performance.

All models use refrigerants R290 and R600a which have a Global Warming Potential (GWP) as low as 3. This compared with lower energy consumption will help lower running costs whilst reducing your carbon footprint.

Accurate temperature performance and space-effi cient

storage capacities are key features of the IC range. All IC Cooled Incubators incorporate a quiet and effective fan circulation system which distributes the air evenly throughout the chamber. All models are designed to operate between +2ºC and +50ºC.

4 sizes are available, and all models can be supplied with either a white epoxy coated or stainless-steel exterior finish. Additionally, all models can also be supplied with double- glazed glass doors. Interiors are high impact-resistant and durable ABS. The entire range also has a one-piece door seal which can be easily removed making the whole cabinet extremely easy to clean.

A major feature of the benchtop/under bench IC200 model is its impressive usable chamber capacity of 92-litres, which makes it one of the largest under-bench cooled incubators available. In addition, the IC200 range can be stacked, thus making good use of fl oor area in the laboratory. The IC400 has an impressive 294-litre capacity yet it only takes up 595mm x 640mm fl oor area.

For easy maneuverability, IC400 and IC600 models are supplied on castors as standard.

IC Cooled Incubators are controlled via an electronic PID controller providing close temperature control and variation throughout the chambers. For added safety, over-temperature protection is provided via a class 2 limiter.
