Extended Line of Wall Mounted Lab Benches and Floor Cupboards Announced Teknomek has extended its TRESPA®
Teknomek designed 304-grade steel fittings to enhance each item’s hygienic properties.
The TRESPA floor cupboards have been developed with flexibility in mind as they can be used as standalone units or sit snuggly beneath Teknomek’s current range of TRESPA tables to suit the user’s needs. The cupboards are fitted with non-marking castors to enable fast cleaning access for all areas and minimise risk of dirt building up.
Each cupboard is supplied with one adjustable TRESPA shelf and there are numerous configurations available in the standard range. These include one and two door variants and with or without fitted drawers. All models come with long lasting and hygienic 304-grade stainless steel handles, shelf posts, hinges and castors.
The TRESPA wall mounted lab benches maximise space within a lab or cleanroom by freeing up space beneath. They feature a TopLab base with integrated upstand, which allows the product to sit flush to the wall. Each is supplied as a modular kit for easy installation and is completed with tough 304 grade stainless steel brackets. These are ergonomically designed as well as offering full access for fast clean down with no harbourage points.
Both the cupboards and the wall mounted lab benches are white with black trim so they are disability friendly and easy to see in cleanrooms.
Sue Springett concluded: “TRESPA TopLab surfaces are great option for labs and cleanrooms, they offer excellent chemical resistance, durability, antimicrobial and antistatic properties. Combined with 304 (or 316) stainless steel and hygienic easy clean design, creates a tough and long lasting quality solution.”

Microbiological Safety Cabinets In Stock and Ready to Go
One of the consequences of the novel coronavirus outbreak is a significant increase in the need for biosafety cabinets used within research and testing for the COVID-19 virus. Haier Biomedical has significantly increased its supply and UK stock of biosafety cabinets to support the UK government’s efforts to tackle the coronavirus pandemic. Cabinets available include the intelligent series biological safety cabinets and dual filtered HR1200-II2-D.
The HR1200-IIA2-D double exhaust filtered MSC utilises two highly efficient HEPA exhaust filters and one ULPA downflow filter to provide maximum protection. As there is no need for external ducting, this is a cost-effective solution.
A Class II microbiological safety cabinet (MSC) provides three levels of protection, protecting users and the environment from exposure to the biohazard, as well as protecting samples from cross contamination. In the case of Coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2 suspected samples should be handled with caution and specified work should be conducted within a MSC at containment level 2 (CL2) go to

Collaborative Effort Delivers Life-Saving Breathing Aid
A breathing aid that can help keep Covid-19 patients out of intensive care, has been developed in just 5 days by mechanical engineers at University College London and clinicians at University College London Hospital working in conjunction with Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains.
The breathing aid, known as a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), has been used extensively in hospitals in China and Italy to help Covid-19 patients with serious lung infections to breathe more easily, when oxygen alone is insufficient. An important component in the device is a machined Vyon®
F Silencer developed and delivered in just five days by UK life sciences manufacturer, Porvair Sciences Ltd.
Kevin Doolan, General Manager of Porvair Sciences said: “We are very proud to be part of this collaborative effort to deliver large numbers of CPAP devices. By focusing our manufacturing resource, we were able, within days, to deliver the Vyon high-density polyethylene component that functions as a silencer for the CPAP device. The tortuous path of our Vyon®
porous plastic materials ensure the air flow has to escape to
the atmosphere by expanding through the porous structure, thus reducing the noise level. As a result, both care staff and patients operating in the healthcare environment where CPAP devices are used will be subject to considerably less noise.”

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Sample Tracking Packages
To assist labs involved with the essential RT-PCR assay part of the ‘test, trace and isolate’ strategy for dealing with the SARS-CoV-2 virus pandemic, Ziath has introduced two optimised packages for reliable tracking of patient samples submitted for Coronavirus (COVID-19) testing.
For large-scale, high-density Coronavirus (COVID-19) testing labs, Ziath has introduced an attractively priced package that brings their Mohawk tube selector, Mirage rack scanner and Samples Software together to provide a reliable, high throughput sample-tracking technology bundle. The liquid handling needed for clean-up and extraction of RNA from COVID-19 patient samples can be done on robots with 4, 8 or 96 well pick up and dispense heads; or multi-channel pipettes of 4 or 8 channels can be used in manual mode. To keep track of these tubes, Ziath offers its 96-position tube selector, the Mohawk, which can automatically pop up tubes from within the rack as they are required, greatly simplifying retrieval and ensuring accurate tube selection under software control. With the co-ordination of Ziath’s Samples software, a Mirage rack scanner and Mohawk tube picker are designed to work seamlessly to provide verification of original tube position in a rack and the location of any picked tube in a daughter or destination rack, updating the database with both pieces of information in real time.
For labs specialising in testing larger Coronavirus (COVID-19) patient sample swabs, Ziath offers its 2D-coded Cryovial sample storage tubes. These are available in a large variety of volumes, up to 10ml capacity, and heights, which can accommodate almost any swab. These Cryovial sample tubes can then be stored, sorted and handled in Cryoboxes. In combination with the Samples software, labs can use a Ziath Cube 2D rack scanner to quickly and accurately update tube position information in each sample entry, with the scanner being controlled from within the database software. A competitively priced bundled package that includes a cryoprotected Cube tube scanner, Samples sample tracking software and two cases of Cryoracks plus sufficient Cryotubes to fill these is now available.
