12 Hands-free Dispensers go Portable to Support Social Distancing

Hygienic furniture specialist Teknomek has introduced a portable hand sanitising unit to further support pharma businesses in reducing transference risk in the workplace. The dispenser supports a viscosity range of 2000-5000 CP, making it compatible with both soap and hand gel. Contents are released touch-free using an infra-red sensor.

Sue Springett, Commercial Manager at Teknomek, said: “With no clear timeline on a Coronavirus vaccine, we’ve seen a surge in demand for products that support hands-free operations and social distancing.

“High touch surfaces such as taps, door handles and dispensers pose a particular transference risk. Options such as infra-red or knee-operated go a long way to solving that problem, each time a touch point is removed, another risk is managed away.”

The dispenser is mounted on a durable and easy-clean 304-grade stainless steel pedestal. The unit’s overall weight is just 10.5 kg, which means it can be moved easily around a facility for placement regardless of how remote this may be.

Sue Springett concluded: “Flexibility is key so we offer numerous options in our dispenser range. Customers are able to permanently wall mount for heavy use scenarios and these can be supplemented by the new portable pedestals. This approach allows additional units to be deployed quickly to support social distancing guidelines without slowing down operations, for example at the start or end of a shift.

“Teknomek’s aim is to be a one-stop shop offering both the furniture and support materials for the hygienic workplace. Consequently, customers are now able to purchase sanitising hand gel refill packs direct from us.”

The dispenser has a maximum 800cc capacity and the sensor is powered by three standard 1.5 v batteries offering 145,000 operations. More information online: ilmt.co/PL/emZB

52498pr@reply-direct.com Water Activity Analyser for Pharmaceutical Applications

Labcell Ltd, the exclusive UK distributor of Aqualab water activity analysers, has introduced the latest Series 4TE instrument. It is an accurate, quick, simple and cost-effective way in which pharmaceutical companies can gain valuable information about gels, powders, pastes and tablets.

The AquaLab Series 4TE makes accurate measurements of the water activity in active ingredients, excipients and formulations. Water activity measurements are essential when following due course and process as part of GMP (good manufacturing practice) because water activity has a significant bearing on product stability, as well as the handleability of materials in production and packaging equipment.

AquaLab Series 4TE is a precise yet easy-to-use instrument which enables lab-quality measurements of water activity to be made in the production environment. It is suitable for use by formulation and research and development teams, as well as those working on new packaging designs.

A feature of the AquaLab Series 4TE is temperature equilibration allowing users to set the sample temperature to anything from 15 to 50ºC; the analyser then maintains that temperature throughout the test. The instrument has a measurement range of 0.030 to 1.000 aw, an accuracy of +/- 0.003 aw and a repeatability of +/-0.001 aw.

Users in the pharmaceutical industry will appreciate the way in which the AquaLab Series 4TE handles data with a strong emphasis on traceability. Data is captured on the instrument and cannot easily be deleted; it can also be downloaded to a computer for archiving and more detailed analysis.

Up to 8,000 data points can be stored securely on the AquaLab and the date, time and operator is logged for every measurement and calibration.

Labcell also supplies the AquaLab Series 4TEV which is identical to the Series 4TE in most respects yet benefits from an additional hygroscopic polymer capacitance sensor for analysing samples containing volatiles. Users can switch between this sensor and the standard dewpoint sensor via the instrument’s front panel menu. Accuracy with the volatiles sensor is +/-0.015 aw. Labcell Ltd is the sole UK distributor for the AquaLab Series 4TE water activity analyser and has extensive experience supplying this instrument and its predecessors to blue-chip pharmaceutical companies. The CondenSyn Waterless Air Condenser from Asynt is a proven ‘green’ replacement for water cooled condensers and suitable for greater than 95% of all chemical reflux applications.

Manufactured in the UK, the CondenSyn is a high-performance glass condenser, that requires no cooling water for operation. Unlike traditional Liebig condensers, which are cooled by a circulating fluid such as tap water, CondenSyn eliminates issues with water leakage and potential laboratory flooding. Also, by not using cooling water the environmental impact of your lab is reduced as is the cost of your water usage.

Offering clear visibility of ongoing experimental reflux, the Asynt CondenSyn is very easy to clean and maintain, whilst the incorporation of a non-roll feature helps prevent accidents if left on a lab bench. Asynt offers a range of CondenSyn to optimally suit different capacity round bottom flasks.

Many chemistry experiments include a reflux step, making a reflux condenser an essential tool for both research and teaching chemistry. As a result, driven by their ease of use and considerable benefits compared to using traditional water condensers, CondenSyn waterless air condensers have rapidly become a necessity in laboratories all over the world. Not only has the CondenSyn proved itself as a sustainable alternative for reflux reactions but increasingly also for

distillation experiments using the CondenSyn Distillation Adapter.

A typical Chemistry laboratory replacing their standard water condensers with CondenSyn units can expect to see a return on its investment in as little as 6 months. More information online: ilmt.co/PL/ZJ19
