Gas Detection 43 Highly versatile ATEX Zone 0 approved level sensing technology for the British market

PVL is pleased to announce the availability of the Torrix XTS fi ll level sensor from Fanfi r, market leading specialists in the development and manufacturing of sensors and systems for monitoring and measuring fi ll levels. the Torrix XTS is maintenance free and does not require recalibration, minimising cost of ownership.

The Torrix XTS is an all-rounder for level measurement and in addition to pure level measurement of the product and/or interface layer, the sensor also offers the options of temperature and density measurement. Users can set an integrated LCD display to show their desired parameters.

Different versions of the probe tube offer a wide range of application possibilities. The Torrix XTS can be used with a standard 12mm tube, a bypass version and a fl exible probe with a maximum length of 22m.

Other key features include a stainless-steel sensor head housing offering protection to IP68, safety glass display cover, operating temperature -20 to + 85 °C; - 55 to + 85 °C with heating. Probe tube material stainless steel with lengths available from 600mm up to 22,000mm. Accuracy Level up to ±0.3 mm or ±0.01 %, resolution (HART® via cable gland or conduit and operating voltage Ex ia 12 to 30 VDC; Ex d 12 to 50 VDC. Output signal 4 to 20 mA (2 wire)/HART®

) 0.1 mm. Electrical connection -protocol; RS-485 (4 wire)/Modbus or Fafnir Universal Device Protocol. Process conditions temperature up to + 450 °Cm, pressure -1 bar to +120 bar. Approved to Ex-Zone 0 (ATEX, IECEx), the most hazardous workplace type where gases, vapours and mists are present.

Steve Moorey, MD of PVL, says, “The new Torrix XTS is a fl exible and highly accurate level measurement probe with an integrated LCD display for on-spot data interpretation by users. As an all in one it offers our customers the capability of continuously measuring the product level, interphase, density and temperature, and volume calculation is also possible.” For More Info, email:

DDS Founded in 2011, produce a world-class gas sensor every 3 seconds

Our founding goal was to bring sensors of high quality and consistent performance at competitiveprices to the marketplace. We achieve this by investing in new technologies and manufacturing equipment, and designing sensors from the start to be as simple as possible to manufacture whilst not sacrifi cing performance.

DDS are also focused on deep collaborative client relationships, working with our customers to fi ndsolutions and sensors they need for their products irrespective of the size of the project.

The young team at DDS are also backed up by key personnel with over 250+ years of experience between them in gas sensors and gas detection instrumentation. With the team benefi tting from botha sensor and instrument background, we fully understand our end-users’ needs and requirements in both performance, delivery, and pricing to keep them at the forefront of gas detection technology.

email: 58371pr@reply-direct.com Lead free oxygen sensors moving the market forward

Whilst oxygen sensors with metal lead inside currently enjoy an exemption from Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) legislation, this is due to be lifted in 2024 and from that point equipment manufacturers may no longer be able to sell new instruments using lead based technology.

Teledyne Oldham Simtronics have just launched their highly user-friendly and compact MX 256 Controller, a device that offers more than 200 gas detection points. The cost-effective MX 256 provides fl exible, precise and dependable site management; its semi-automatic magnetic calibration signifi cantly simplifi es maintenance ensuring that the system remains in excellent condition even in the harshest of industrial locations.

This instrument’s fully addressable sensors reduce the cost of installation considerably while minimising its overall operating costs in comparison to using multiple stations for larger locations, for instance: industrial plants and factories, labs, hotels, educational establishments, and large public buildings and facilities.

The large capacity MX 256 features 256 addressable relays, 256 logic inputs and 256 digital sensors - hence the name. It also includes an 8-line digital control unit, integrated relays and 224 logic inputs. Its connected OLCT10N digital detectors can detect oxygen, nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide, ammonia, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.

It is simple to install in a wall-mounted enclosure and its COM 256 software takes care of confi guration. By using the industrial controller or remote HMI operators can easily connect 4-20 mA detectors and record data on a USB key or SD card.

This is the latest addition to Teledyne Oldham Simtronics’ MX family of units joining the MX 16, MX 32, MX 40, MX 43, MX 52 and MX 62 and enabling them to offer their customers an extensive range of solutions to cater for every gas detection need.

Fortunately, DD-Scientifi c has spent considerable time and effort developing a lead-free alternative solution delivering compliance with legislation andsignifi cantly enhanced performance and sensor working lifetimes. The lead-free technology from DD-Scientifi c works similarly to traditional toxic electrochemical sensors, meaning that OEMs do not need todevelop additional complex drive circuitry. Their design makes them inherently stable over a long period of time, potentially more than 8 years and unlike lead based sensors are unaffected by use in acid gas streams.

They are available in our standard 4 Series general purpose industrial package and more recently in a miniature DceL package to enhance the portability of personal gas monitors. They are also available in the DD-Scientifi c 5 Series package for use in emissions monitoring and combustion gas analysis.
