Outgoing chair statement
The word “unprecedented” is often over-used. I think it is fair to say that when I became Chair, I didn’t really know what was to lay ahead. The last 2 years have certainly been “interesting” and defi nitely unprecedented. Despite all the challenges we have faced in our personal and professional lives, the STA has not only survived, we have thrived.
We remain as relevant to the monitoring community today as we did when we were founded. Members’ attendance at meetings has grown signifi cantly. We have a number of vibrant working groups. Regulators regularly seek STA advice and support in delivering complex regulatory challenges. Training has proven more popular than ever.
The last 2 years have accelerated the pace of change in the STA. Thanks to Sam and Andy’s efforts we have relinquished the Hitchin offi ce and moved to a more bespoke offi ce for effi ciency reasons. Simon and Paul’s efforts have meant that a signifi cant portion of the STA’s training has moved online and reached a wider audience than ever as a result. Thank you all for a Herculean effort! And thank you to our members for your continued support through trying times. As we look forwards to the next 2 years I am delighted that the STA is in good health.
Finally I want to warmly welcome Alison to her role. It is a historic moment as we embark on our next chapter of our journey in the safe hands of the fi rst female Chair of the STA. Congratulations Alison! You have all our support.
