Gas Detection 41
Safe and precise gas detection in harsh industrial locations GDS Technologies recently launched the GasVac®

How can we help identifying natural gas leaks when H2
is added? Solo single line gas
sample unit, which offers an effi cient and precise method of monitoring gases continuously in restrictive harsh industrial environments where standard gas sampling instruments are not enough.
Solo was deployed by a biotechnology
company who specialises in food waste recycling. Other methods of gas monitoring had been tried, but none had worked because of the high humidity Solo was installed and solved the problem.
Solo is perfectly suited to extreme and harsh conditions. It monitors up to fi ve types of gas, which includes methane, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulphide and VOCs. The instrument’s multiple functions offer selectable sampling times ranging from 40 to 10,240 second intervals. Samples taken from targeted areas go through a selectable purge period during which the measurement system is fl ushed with clean air, so sensor cells maintain optimum performance. An integral peristaltic pump fi nish the procedure by removing moisture is at specifi ed timed intervals.
Operators of this gas sampler set sampling time, clean air purge time and condensate drain cycle time which can be specifi ed according to site conditions and sampling requirements. Continuous gas readouts further improve the performance of the system and all sensor 4~20mA signals are maintained in all selected function time periods.
GDS Technologies’ patented micropore sampling (MPS) complements the GasVac® samplers by integrating a
sampling line that can be either a continuous length or modular, enabling multiple ‘single intake point sampling’ as well as ‘area sampling’ from the whole surface area of the line. The versatile, compact and precise micropore system can be installed in confi ned spaces like tunnels or perimeter monitoring of storage tanks and monitoring a combination of lighter and heavier than air gases.
The GasVac® Solo is simple to install and needs hardly any maintenance and offers a low-cost solution with a high
level of accuracy and dependability, protecting people and assets from toxic, fl ammable and asphyxiate gases. The GacVac®
Solo+ has all the same features as the GasVac®
to eight sample lines, making it a perfect tool for large tank farms. More Information online:

TBM and THT are the most commonly used odorants to make odourless natural gas smell, so that people realize there is a gas leak. However, control of these odorants is necessary to maintain their effectiveness. Only last year, Sensorix offered its electrochemical (EC) gas sensors for mercaptan and THT detection - Sensorix TBM 50 and Sensorix THT 100.
But due to various power to gas initiatives, more and more H2 will be added to natural

solution for the detection of mercaptans and THT in natural gas with added H2 , CO, H2 S, THT and is ready for use in H2 containing natural gas (“power to

The Sensorix TBM 50 detects mercaptans with zero cross sensitivity towards H2
gas”). The Sensorix TBM 50 gas sensor has excellent repeatability (standard deviation of sensitivity = 0.5 % for 10 consecutive measurements at 10 mg/ m³ TBM). It also shows excellent baseline stability from -10 to 40°C and in changing humidity (<0.1 mg/m³) and its unbiased operation will increase battery life in your portable instrument.
The 3-electrode sensor, Sensorix THT 100 low H2 is suitable for power-to-gas
applications because it has a very low H2 interference (THT signal only 1 mg/m3 in 20% hydrogen), has no H2
S cross interference and it requires 300 mV bias. All
sensors are available in various standard formats - 4S, 7S, Mini, Classic, Smart, as well as in customer specifi c mechanical adaptations.

QED enters new era for portable gas analysis with launch of fully modular i-Q™ series
QED Environmental Systems has put modularity at the heart of its new series of portable gas analysers for the biogas and waste management industries.
The new GEOTECH i-Q™ series, which is set to replace the highly popular 5000 range (Biogas, GA & GEM), comprises of a series of new portable gas analysers suitable for a wide variety of anaerobic digestion, biogas, landfi ll and land remediation applications.
One of the defi ning features of the i-Q™ series will be its intelligent modular architecture, with user-replaceable gas cells, pressure sensors and fi lters all intended to maximise time in the fi eld by minimising the need for back-to-base servicing and calibration. As such, pre- calibrated modules can be sent direct to site from the factory as part of planned maintenance activity, with a new calibration certifi cation generated once the modules have been replaced.
In addition to greater modularity, new features include a user-replaceable battery with an enhanced battery life of up to 10 hours, a 5” optional touchscreen display and dedicated system pressure port to improve reading and process time.
All models offer Wi-Fi connectivity, while the Affi nity Bluetooth device promotes i-Q™ series compatibility with legacy accessories such as temperature probes and anemometers.
Craig Millar, Engineering Manager at QED Environmental Systems, comments: “As the originators of landfi ll gas equipment, the launch of the i-Q™ series is a landmark moment for QED and represents the culmination of over 32 years’ of expertise in the fi eld.
“While we are excited to be rolling out these new and innovative models for a host of different applications over the coming months, we believe the i-Q™ series really constitutes a step change in gas analysis, and resets the benchmark for what operators can expect from this cutting edge technology. Benefi tting from the most accurate measurement capabilities available on the market and enhanced uptime, achieved through its intelligent modular design; the i-Q™ series really shifts the paradigm of all portable gas analysis technology.”
