MHT Technology Ltd’s (UK) terminal automation system is a scalable system capable of handling small depots to the largest of terminals.
It has been designed as an open system capable of interfacing to most makes of loading computer and entry/exit terminal.
The new truck loading system integrates with their existing and well proven inventory management system and stock control system to produce a complete terminal management system able to reconcile stocks in real-time.
The following loading computers are supported:by Smith Accuload, Emerson Danload, Brooks Petrocount and Contrec 1010
The system architecture is primarily based upon a back office server which is responsible for all data acquisition from loading computers, entry/exit terminals and tank gauging system etc. Client operator stations are provided to operate the system, providing functions such as order entry, loading authorisation, load monitoring, administrative activities from controlling drivers, trucks etc.
Dual redundant servers can be provided for mission critical applications. A comprehensive range of management reports are provided as standard; additional reports can be added or existing reports customised to customers requirements. A sophisticated system for recipe management is included allowing blending of products to meet specific customers requirements.
MHT are targeting two principal areas of the terminalling business; upgrades to old legacy systems where much of the existing infrastructure can be retained and migrated in stages, and new infrastructure projects (Greenfield sites) where a complete turnkey service can be offered include complete skid mounted equipment. The system will be available for demonstration during the exhibition.
MHT are also looking for qualified partners to work with in overseas markets to promote their terminal management systems and would be delighted to hear from any interested parties.

Fence Electrode Technology, or Humidity Compensation?
A recent evaluation conducted compared a PID cell incorporating Fence Electrode Technology against one equipped with Humidity Compensation. Test results prove that an Ion Science PhoCheck PID with Fence Electrode Technology is twice as accurate, more stable and faster than a PID with Humidity Compensation.
The published data shows that when subjected to high humidity, PhoCheck is much less subject to drift, while responding and clearing out faster, resulting in much fewer non-reports.
Target industries and applications for PhoCheck include; petrochemical, environmental, HazMat/WMD, emergency response, soil headspace analysis and confined space entry.

Oil/Water Monitoring of Rooms and Storage Facilities
Afriso’s (Germany) Watchdog ÖWWG 3 oil/water alarm unit signals unwanted accumulations of water, fuel oil, diesel, motor oil, vegetable oil, transformer oil as well as antifreeze agents, emulsion or oil-water mixtures. It is used to monitor heating connection rooms, oil storage connection rooms, water connection rooms, laundry rooms, drip trays, shafts, channels or pipes.
ÖWWG 3 consists of a control unit and a flexible PTC thermistor probe. In the case of an alarm, visual and audible alarms are triggered and the unit is locked. The device is unlocked at the unit itself, however, unlocking is also possible externally from a distance of up to 100 m. The oil/water alarm is intrinsically safe and self-monitoring. Short-circuits and cable breaks in the probe cable are detected. In the case of a power failure, the de-energising output relay transmits a signal to additional devices or pumps. The unit can be integrated into existing communication and building control systems. The oil/water alarm unit is TÜV- tested and has the Technical Approval Z-65.40-339 of the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt). To ensure perfect room monitoring and a maximum of operational safety, ÖWWG 3 can be connected to the Afriso EMS 220 event reporting system. In the case of an alarm, the person in charge is immediately notified via the internet, e-mail, SMS or phone. Early detection of unwanted liquids can save private households a lot of hassle and money and companies and operators of industrial facilities disastrous accidents with severe consequences to persons and the environment.

Fieldbus Foundation Praises Expanded Collaboration on Field Device Integration
The Fieldbus Foundation recently praised an expanded automation industry collaborative effort intended to accelerate deployment of Field Device Integration (FDI) technology. Key automation suppliers have agreed to enlarge the scope of the Electronic Device Description Language (EDDL) Cooperation Team into the FDI Cooperation, which is supporting a uniform device integration solution for process industries across all host systems, devices and protocols as required by end users.
The FDI Cooperation project will initially consist of major industry trade associations, such as the Fieldbus Foundation, FDT Group, HART Communications Foundation, OPC Foundation and PROFIBUS Nutzerorganisation; as well as leading control equipment suppliers, including ABB, Emerson Process Management, Endress+Hauser, Honeywell, Invensys, Siemens, and Yokogawa.
Fieldbus Foundation President and CEO Rich Timoney commented, “Adoption of a
standardised FDI solution is in the best interest of controls & instrumentation suppliers and end users around the world, since it provides a unified path forward for device integration that is based on use case requirements, incorporates the best aspects of each member technology, and eliminates redundancies where they may exist.
