New PA5 Digital Manometer with Data Management Software for Automated Testing of Oxidation Stability

The new PA5 digital manometer combined with the PetroNet® software from Petrotest Instruments (Germany) form a proprietary data logging and

management solution for determining the oxidation stability of fuels, lubricants and oils according to various standards including ASTM D 525, ISO 7536, ASTM D 942, D 2112 and D 4742.

A unique feature of the PA5 manometer is the simultaneous recording of temperature along with pressure and time data. For continuous real- time monitoring of bath temperatures, a PT1000 with a resolution of 0.1°C and a range of up to 200°C is used. For ASTM D525 / ISO 7536 the PetroNet®

While the PA5 manometer performs the actual data sampling, the PetroNet® via USB or RS232 communications.

software presents online-correlated temperature pressure curves in a diagram along with the numerical values. Instant data viewing capabilities include colored line plots, auto-axis rescaling, adjustable graph scrolling and quick graph zooming. PetroNet® or csv spreadsheets.

The PetroNet® supports direct conversions to Microsoft Excel

The PA5 features selectable pressure (bar, psi or kPa) and temperature (°C, °F) units and allows for recording up to 57000 paired readings at intervals of <15 s. Pressure ranges from 0-14 barrel. are covered. The PA5 is enhanced with extended non-volatile memory and powered by a lithium battery allowing for nonstop measurements for up to 10 days in autarkic mode. The battery status is indicated on screen. In addition, the PA 5 can be supplied via USB or AC adapter. To maximise operator efficiency, the PA5 features a new intuitive two-key operation (SELECT and ENTER).

To use the same PA5 instrument for several applications, the PetroNet® Professional Version is required

(optional) which allows to freely allocate a standard test routine (e.g. ASTM D 525 / ASTM D 942) or individual user programs to the PA5 and make all relevant configuration settings.

Versatile Spectrometer for a Host of Industrial Applications from 900-2500 nm

Simdist Analysers with New Software

Dutch manufacturers; G.A.S (Global Analyser Solutions) offers a comprehensive line of Simdist analysers according to several international standard methods from ASTM, DIN and IP. The new

release software processes EZChrom datafiles fully automated, and generates boiling point distribution reports, quality reference data reports and other relevant data like physical distillation correlations, cut point tables, RVP, MOV and NOACK results.

NIRQuest from Ocean Optics (Netherlands) is a fibre optic near-infrared spectrometer easily adaptable for cost-effective on-line process control measurements from 900-2500 nm.

NIRQuest represents the next generation of optical sensing technologies that are moving from the lab to the process line. Flexible detectors, light sources and sampling optics result in instruments more easily implemented into the process stream. The modular approach of systems such as NIRQuest makes multiple-point sampling and redundant sensing easily accessible for on- line applications, and versatile system setups enable far less costly adaptation to changing process line needs.

NIRQuest uses a high-performance Indium Gallium Arsenide (InGaAs)-array detector in a compact optical bench with thermoelectric cooler and low-noise electronics. The spectrometer couples to a PC and can operate via USB 2.0 or RS-232. In addition, NIRQuest can be bundled with the Ocean Optics Remora Network Adapter to turn the system into a networked spectral data server over Ethernet or an existing Wi-Fi connection.

The external hardware triggering functions allow users to capture data when an external event occurs, or to trigger an event after data acquisition. This capability can be especially useful for capturing data from automated processes or from devices such as solar simulators that flash synchronously.

software provides a temperature

correction algorithm. For fuels oxidation and other ASTM oxidation tests, the PA5 offers pre-defined routines and settings to ensure that tests are conducted according to international standards. In addition, the test stop can be programmed based on criteria like elapsed time, pressure drop or percentage of pressure drop.

application handles the online configuration, data transfer and saving to the computer or network.

The sample parameters can be modified on-screen. When used in an autarkic mode, the pressure, temperature and time readings are retrieved from the PA5 after the test and imported into PetroNet®

enetration value of samples is mainly dedicated to semi-solid and solid bituminous materials, greases, petroleum waxes and

has many applications in other industries (food, cosmetics, pharma- ceutical...) to determine the consistency of the products.

NORMALAB has launched its 3rd generation of automatic penetro-

meter with improved technology. NPN TECH has been designed for a maximum ease of use and control from operator’s point of view.

Based on a mechanical technology which has been proofed for years, the unit does offer latest electronics possibilities, including USB communication, for PC, Printer, or Keyboard. Accuracy is our target and the Stepper motor for penetration depth gives precision as low as 0.01 mm. A position recall for routine tests can be set and the unit does include options as the automatic approach for conductive samples, accurate and highly reliable supports for light and magnifying glass, Optoelectronic detection of depth penetration and an automatic level detection device for bitumens.
