Safety New Generation of Wireless Gas Detection

A new generation of gas detection, the GenII product line is a complete set of instruments for detecting an array of gases. Backwards- compatible with the first generation of Otis Instruments’ (USA), GenII will boost existing applications, as well as ad numerous features to new setups.

With several radio options for WireFree applications—and various compatible sensors for both WireFree and Wired (4-20mA input) applications—GenII offers unparalleled gas detection options for domestic and international markets.

The first-released components of the GenII product line include: OI-7010 WireFree 32-channel Monitor, OI-6900 Sensor Unit, and OI-6000 Sensor Unit.

The OI-7010 is a hybrid monitor; the device boasts 32 WireFree channels with the option to use 4-20mA input sensor units on the last four channels. The monitor is AC/DC powered and is housed in a NEMA 4 certified enclosure. The device features four 5Amp, configurable dry-contact relays, two graphical LCD displays, power EMI filter, and surge protection.

The OI-7010 Can be configured with up to three radios, allowing optimal flexibility and compliance with most international standards. Radio options include: 900 MHz ISM, 100/250 mW 7-mile Line-Of-Site (LOS) radio for North America and Australia; 2.4 GHz ISM, 100 mW 2.5- mile LOS option for other international applications; or 900 MHz, 100 mW, 7-mile LOS for North America and Australia (legacy option).

The OI-6900 WireFree Sensor Unit is a self-contained battery-powered electro-chemical based ambient gas sensor unit that uses GenII WireFree RF protocol for various gases. The unit is capable of sensing H2

S, O2 , SO2 , CL2 , H2 , NH3 , CO, F2 , and HF gases, as well as customer-

specific gases not listed here. The unit is powered by a 3.6 Volt Lithium-Thionyl Chloride (LI-SOC12) battery (average battery life one year). The user is allowed to choose either a 900 MHz ISM, 100/250 mW 7-mile LOS radio for North America and Australia, or a 2.4 GHz ISM, 100 mW 2.5-mile LOS option for other international applications.

The OI-6000 Sensor Unit is a wired powered electro-chemical, infrared, catalytic bead, or MOS-based ambient gas sensor unit for various gases. The unit comes standard with 4-20 mA and RS-485 Modbus communications, as well as configurable options that include: relays, Otis Instruments WireFree radio, and ethernet.

The OI-6000 Sensor Unit is capable of detecting gases that include (but are not limited to): H2 S, O2 , SO2 , CL2 , H2 , NH3 , CO, F2 , HF, LEL (hydrocarbons), and CO2 Both sensor units are available in a CSA Class 1 Division I, Groups C & D certified—as well as Atex Zone 1 certified—custom Otis enclosure.

All GenII products feature graphical LCD displays with LED backlight (sunlight readable (transflective), 128 x 68 resolution), and an interface with push-buttons that have congruous magnetically-triggered non-intrusive switches.

. The device is powered

by 12-24 Volts DC, and draws a maximum of 100 mA. Like the OI-WF6900, radio options for this unit include either a 900 MHz ISM, 100/250 mW 7-mile LOS radio for North America and Australia, or a 2.4 GHz ISM, 100 mW 2.5-mile LOS option for other international applications.

Now ATEX Certified TVOC Monitor For Zone 2 Areas Without Safety Barriers

Ion Science (UK) introduces the ATEX approved 3 wire TVOC monitor, for use without safety barriers in Zone 2 hazardous areas.

The ATEX certified TVOC (Total Volatile Organic Compound) monitor can be installed without barriers in a Zone 2 area, to directly replace an existing photoionisation detector (PID). A significant benefit to the customer is the instrument’s easy installation; saving time and reducing costs.

TVOC is also available as an IECEx and ATEX approved 4 wire option for zone 1 areas, with safety barriers.

Designed for fixed, continuous area monitoring, TVOC provides rapid, accurate detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The 4-20mA analogue output allows TVOC to be integrated into a DCS control system to give warning or control of high VOC levels within the

working environment.

The TVOC PID cell utilises patented Fence Electrode Technology; independently verified as the best performing PID on the market. Its proven PID capabilities provide an unrivalled resistance to humidity and give faster, more consistent results than competing PID instruments.

Target industries and applications for TVOC include; manufacturing and processing plants, refineries, petrochemical, offshore, chemical, waste water treatment, pharmaceutical, indoor air quality, pulp and paper, solvent recovery systems and industrial painting and coating.

Sperian (France) announces the launch of its newest gas detector, the Biosystems NXP. This instrument is a cutting edge, affordable, safe and reliable fixed gas detection system. The Biosytems NXP is very easy to install; just plug into a standard wall outlet and the surrounding area will be protected from toxic gases for 24 hours.

New Safe Area Multitone Sounder

The SA5 Safe Area Multione Sounder, from RTK Instruments (UK) is a high specification, cost effective alarm sounder with a maximum sound output of 112dBA, ideally suited to areas of high ambient noise. Its wide operating voltage (9-28VDC) and low current consumption make it flexible in operation.

The SA5 Sounder offers you a choice of 32 tones which are user selectable using a DIL switch during installation. A second tone is available which can be switched in by the connection of a third wire to the sounder. The IP65 rated casing provides a high level of durability and resistance to environmental conditions. All connections are made to the base and the sounder head

twists and locks into position on commissioning, thus avoiding wiring and connection problems.

The SA5 Multitone Sounder is a cost effective, high output, durable safe area sounder, designed for reliability and flexibility in operation.
