New Heated Sampler for Reliable Direct Injection of Viscous Matrices
The heated MMS 5000 is an application and matrix-optimised auto sampler, adapted to the special requirements involved in the introduction of viscous matrices. Thanks to the powerful heating option for both the sample vials and the injector head, even matrices that are difficult to handle, such as paraffin oil, lubricating oil, hydraulic fluids etc., can be analysed easily for their sulphur, nitrogen, carbon, and chlorine contents, ranging from ultra traces to percentage.

sampler – elemental analyser for fast and reliable processing of viscous matrices. multi EA®
• Direct analysis of untreated viscous liquids • Elimination of dilution step as source of errors • Reliable fast analysis results • Precise, sensitive readings in analysis of trace contents
• Increased ease of use
Dilution as an additional sample treatment step is not only a factor of increased processing time and additional costs for suitable solvents, but also a possible source of mistakes and contaminations, and therewith erroneous analysis results. That is why it is preferable to analyse a sample matrix directly without dilution.
Besides, sometimes it is not possible to dilute a sample, due to the ultra trace element contents - as in quality control of paraffin and white oil for pharmaceutical purposes.
In that case the only way to introduce these samples is by means of boats, like a solid. But this type of sample feeding also bears risks (e.g. sample loss by hydrolysis processes and contamination by ambient pollutants), which will seriously affect the measurement results.
The multi EA® 5000, with its heated liquids sampler, effectively eliminates all these sources
of interference. It combines convenient, user-friendly hardware and short measurement times with high-precision dosing technology and minimal maintenance requirements. In addition, the unique flame sensor technology ensures the safe and quantitative oxidation of all types of solid and liquid sample matrices, independent of whether volatile, none volatile or highly viscous. This guarantees trouble-free use in shift operation, as required in modern labs.

New D4294 Sulphur EDXRF also Measures: Cl, V, Fe, and Ni
To meet the needs of ASTM D4294 sulphur applications, Rigaku (USA) introduces the new low-cost NEX QC energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) analyser. Featuring D4294 compliance in air, with an autosampler and C/H correction, the instrument is also ideal for measuring heavy elements (like: V, Fe, Ni) and chlorine (Cl) in crude oil as well as other heavy and refined petroleum products. Specifically designed for routine petroleum applications, the new Rigaku NEX QC features an intuitive “icon-driven” touch screen interface for easy operation and a built-in printer for convenience. The shuttered 50kV X-ray tube and Peltier cooled semiconductor detector deliver exceptional short-term repeatability and long-term reproducibility with excellent element peak resolution. This high voltage capability (50 kV), along with multiple automated X- ray tube filters, provides a wide range of applications versatility and low limits-of-detection (LOD). Applications for the NEX QC range across a broad spectrum of analytical needs, including: crude oil, marine and bunker fuels, diesel, heavies, lubricating oils and other petrochemicals.
