10 Analytical Instrumentation New Low-cost Automatic Vacuum Distillation Instrument
Gecil Process’ (France) new Gecdist 1160 V6 is specifically designed for stand alone operation in local mode for QC laboratories that do not need sophisticate reporting capabilities and who are working to a tight budget.
In 1985; Gecil Process became the first manufacturer to introduce a fully automatic distillation unit in accordance with ASTM method D1160. Since 1985 Gecil have improved the electronic control and accuracy of their instruments to finally offer to their end users the well known Minidist 1160 V6. Based on the demand of many QC laboratories in the petroleum, petrochemical and bio fuels sectors, Gecil are now offering a light version of the Minidist 1160.
The Gecdist 1160 V6 having all the same process and method capabilities but with reduced capabilities to communicate to an external PC via Ethernet interface in a Windows format. With such a model, Gecil can also deliver their instrument without several key elements such as the current vacuum pump, circulating bath with thermostat, heating mantle, pressure sensor and other apparatus of the laboratory manual D1160 set up.

The working temperature range covers –20°C to +40°C at a temperature stability of ±0.5 °C. Four different pump types with flow
rates of up to 60 l/min respectively and 6 bar pressure will meet any requirement. All units have an LED temperature display integrated into a splash water proof keypad for easy cleaning.
An RS232 interface as well as an analogue alarm output are located on the front panel and the lift-up cover placed on the top gives easy access to the filling port.
An additional hinged tray serves as a compartment for the operating manual and other documents. The removable venting grid allows for easy cleaning of the condenser.
All models include an easily visible level indicator. Models with a pump pressure of more than 1 bar additionally have a pressure gauge and feature a bypass to adjust the pump capacity. Venting slots are exclusively located on the front and back and allow placing the units directly next to each other.

The SONIMIX 4001 from LNI Schmidlin (Switzerland) is a primary standard portable Ozone generator.
The generated ozone is measured and regulated by an ozone analyser using the US EPA method. The device includes an “on board” self-regenerable Zero Air Generator.
The generation capabilities are from 50 ppb up to 1 ppm. This device is ideally used to check and calibrate the ozone monitors. The SONIMIX 4001 can be easily driven through its touch screen interface.
All the important functioning parameters are monitored and displayed. Another possible option is the potential to generate Ozone with dry or humid Air.

Process Analysis System for Pharmaceutical and Chemical Applications
ProFoss from FOSS NIRSystems (USA) is now available with the Vision software for chemical process applications. ProFoss is a process analysis system based on high resolution diode array technology.
It provides non-destructive analysis of chemical products directly in the process line without bypass. The solution helps to optimise the use of raw materials and to consistently run production closer to target specifications.

New Reduced Volume TAN System Saves Cost and Use of Organic Solvents
GR Scientific (UK) have launched a new micro system for Total Acid Number (TAN) analysis of transformer oil samples.
A micro combination pH electrode and optimised titration vessel have been developed specifically to address the reduction in organic solvent consumption.
The system enables the user to save up to 75% of the volume and cost
of organic solvent used in the analysis.
The new system reduces the cost per test to around £1 and greatly reduces the cost of waste solvent disposal.
It is an easy to use system and developed specifically for the wide range of TAN values expected from Oil industry samples.
The simplified methodology also removes need for a balance as a 1.0ml sample is all that is needed using a specially manufactured gas tight syringe and a pre-measured cylinder for the addition of solvent.
