New Vibration Free Chilling/Heating Incubators
Torrey Pines Scientific announces new larger EchoTherm™ vibration free bench top chilling incubators that are ideal for protein crystallography. The incubators are 100 litre capacity and can hold 66 assay plates without stacking.
These incubators are Peltier-based for heating and chilling, and are vibration-free making them ideal for doing protein crystallisations. Other applications include incubating marine samples below room temperature, enzyme reactions and deactivations, hybridisations, ligations, and general lab incubations.
There are two models, the IN55 is fully programmable for temperature cycling crystals for better growth while the IN50 is simple digital. Both models feature temperature ramping up and down. Chamber size for both is 100 litres. They are settable form 4.0ºC to 70.0ºC and feature temperature control to ± 0.1°C, and can be controlled at or near room temperature.
Both models feature digital display to 0.1°C, and accuracy to ± 0.2ºC and have RS232 I/O port for remote control and data collection. Also included are a digital timer in hours, minutes and seconds with user settable Auto-Off, temperature ramping and audible alarms.
Chamber size is 24” high by 20” deep by 14” wide and come with eight stainless steel racks with room for twelve racks. Racks are split in the middle for variety of sample sizes.
Both units are shipped with universal power supplies that take AC line inputs from 100VAC to 265VAC, 50/60 Hz and converts that to 12 volts DC for the unit. An AC line cord for the country of use, user’s manual and full 12-month warranty are also included. They are UL, CSA, and CE compliant.

Economical Recirculator Provides Low-Cost Cooling for Laboratory Applications
An efficient and reliable liquid-to-air recirculator that provides exceptionally economical heat removal for FTIR, GC/MS, ICP, vessels, and other laboratory applications is now available from PolyScience. Intended for removing heat loads from sensitive equipment and processes, the Model 3370 Liquid-to-Air Cooler boasts a 4000 watt cooling capacity at 20°C (68°F) and can handle liquid temperatures as high as 70°C (158°F). As a result, it offers significant cost-savings over mechanically refrigerated circulators.
Designed for simple operation and maintenance, the Model 3370 circulates fluid at up to 20.5 lpm (5.4 gpm) to the equipment, back into a reservoir, and through a fan-cooled radiator which removes heat. A built-in low-liquid level indicator safeguards the reservoir and circulation system. The pump and cooling system are further protected with reusable filters. The unit is available with either a turbine or positive displacement pump.
In addition to long life and easy maintenance, the Model 3370 Liquid-to-Air Cooler is also extremely compact. Measuring just 20.5 x 15 x 22.3 inches (52 x 38.1 x 54.6 cm), it requires only slightly more than 1.5ft2 of floor or bench space.

New Lab-Grade Undercounter Refrigerators Use Compressor-less Cooling Technology to Maintain Optimal Storage Conditions
Clinical and laboratory personnel with the need to store vaccines, pharmaceuticals and other molecular or biological samples safely can benefit from a new series of lab-grade undercounter refrigerators that are designed to minimise energy usage and noise, while maintaining high levels of performance and maximising storage capacity.
As the only current lab-grade undercounter refrigerators using thermoelectric devices in place of compressor technology for variable speed control, these refrigerators regulate their internal temperatures more effectively to provide ideal storage conditions for the most demanding applications. Powered by compressor-free V-Drive technology, featuring synchronised temperature management (STeM), internal conditions are actively monitored and maintained at the desired temperature. This includes constant monitoring of, and adjustments during, door- openings to minimise the negative impact of temperature fluctuations on samples. In combination, V-Drive and STeM provide uninterrupted temperature stability and uniformity throughout the internal chamber. Furthermore, the new TSX505 refrigerators consume up to 37% less energy than other models, translating to an average annual cost reduction of up to 30%.
The compressor-less technology of the TSX 505 refrigerator also overcomes the common challenge of ‘humming’ experienced with many lab-grade refrigerators through its whisper-quiet operation at just 35 dBA. This means that the unit can be kept in work areas without disturbing personnel or nearby patients. In addition, with no internal protrusions, such as overhead fans, users can benefit from up to double the storage space compared to similar models.
“Our customers often deal with highly sensitive samples that need to be maintained at constant temperatures to preserve their viability for use, which is especially important in the clinical setting,” said Eric Roman, President, Laboratory Products, Thermo Fisher Scientific. “For many, it’s essential that vaccines and other medicines are located close to the patient to boost efficiencies, which is why we focused on decreasing refrigerator noise to reduce the level of disturbance at the point of care. This, in combination with the sustainability focus of the entire TSX portfolio, enables us to bring to market a product designed to eliminate real laboratory issues in a number of settings.”
