11 Low-Power Source Offers High Pulse Rate

Miniature spectroscopy pioneer Ocean Optics has added a pulsed xenon light source option for its Jaz modular sensing system. The Jaz-PX is a high flash rate, short-arc xenon lamp especially useful for UV-Vis applications such as absorbance, bioreflectance, fluorescence and phosphorescence. The lamp has maximum pulse frequency of 500 Hz and spectral response from 190-1000nm.

Jaz is a family of stackable, modular components that share common electronics and communications. At its heart is a miniature linear CCD-array spectrometer, available with user-selected grating and entrance slit optimised for a variety of application needs, in a design that accommodates up to 8 spectrometer channels. Each Jaz stack includes a powerful onboard microprocessor and display, which eliminate the need for a PC. Additional Jaz modules are available for battery operation and Ethernet connectivity, as well as for sample illumination (via UV-Vis and Vis-NIR sources) and excitation (via LEDs).

The Jaz-PX operates in both free running and triggered modes, which allow its pulses to be coordinated with other devices in the Jaz stack. Flash-to-flash stability is <1% and the flash rate is 500 Hz. Jaz-PX has an SMA 905 connector that couples to Ocean Optics accessories, including optical fibres, cuvette holders, probes and other sampling optics. Because it produces a pulsed signal, the Jaz-PX is less likely to cause solarisation in optical fibre assemblies, which can occur when fibres are illuminated with signal <260nm.

In addition, Jaz can be configured for a variety of field, lab and process setups. The Jaz-PX is ideal for field applications such as bioreflectance that require a high-intensity, low-power source as no external power supply is required. When used in the field, the lamp will operate from the power of the battery for approximately 3.5-4 hours. Additional power is available through an optional 50 Watt-hour Jaz battery extender.

Advancing Elemental Analysis for Environmental, Materials, and Consumer Safety Applications

PITTCON NEWS

PerkinElmer, Inc announced the launch of the NexION™ 300 Inductively Coupled Plasma- Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS) for elemental analysis. “The NexION 300 platform advances trace element analysis, and its introduction is perfectly timed to help address global problems ranging from contamination of our air, water and food to the integrity of pharmaceuticals and nutritional supplements, as well as the safety of emerging nanomaterials,” explained Martin Long, Vice President, Spectroscopy, Analytical Sciences and Laboratory Services, PerkinElmer. He added: “Researchers can now benefit from a simplified system for analysis of trace elements in the parts-per-trillion range, allowing even non-expert users to perform complex analyses. The new NexION 300 system also greatly reduces the need for daily user maintenance and cleaning, translating into minimal downtime and less need for highly-skilled operators."

The NexION 300 instrument features the patented Universal Cell Technology™ (UCT) and is the only instrument of its kind with three modes of interference removal - Standard, Collision and Reaction. These three modes allow scientists to choose the appropriate technique for their particular application, based on the complexity of the problem to be solved.

NexION’s Standard mode can be used for simple and routine analyses. Collision mode is effective for semi-quantitative analyses, environmental sample monitoring and testing unknown samples. Reaction mode, using patented DRC™ technology, provides the best detection limits available, for even the most difficult elements and matrices such as semiconductor testing. The NexION 300 system can be integrated with chromatography systems for effective speciation analysis to enable customers to accurately separate and measure the toxicity, bioavailability, metabolism and environmental mobility of elements.

Circle no. 329 FID STATION

The LNI Schmidlin SA Hydrogen / Air gas-generators FID STATION is the eco- nomical answer to high pressure gas cylin- ders in the laboratories. Hydropgen and Air (booth gases 100% free of Hydrocarbons) are generated from the same unit , ready to feed any kind of Flam Ionization Detectors (FID). Zero Air is made from compressed air from the laboratory and Hydrogen is made by electrolysis from deionized water. The FID STATION is very small in food print and easy to operate.

LAB AIR STATION’s LAB AIR STATION’s are avaialbe in 3 version:

AIR STATION includes a quite built-in air compressor for to supply oil free and dry air.

ZERO AIR STATION includes a built-in air compressor for to supply oil free and dry air . A catalytic oven removes the hydrocarbons down to 0.1 ppm.

ULTRA ZERO AIR STATION includes a built- in air compressor for to supply oil free and dry air . A catalytic oven removes the hydrocar- bons down to 0.1 ppm and in addition a set of PSA filters and specific scrubbers, to remove CO2, CO, HC, NOx, SO2 and O3 contami- nants and moisture down to less than 0.1 ppm.

The typical flow rates of the LAB

ULTRA ZERO AIR STA- TION are 1’500 Nml/min up to 30’000 Nml/min. The use of the LAB AIR STATIONS instead of gas cylinders reduce the ope- rating costs significantly.

Circle no. 332 PERMEATION CALIBRATION

The PermaCal has been designed to easily generate different types of calibration gases like BTEX, Acetaldehyde, Formaldehyde, SO2,... Equipped with a large size permeation oven, the PermaCal can hold up to 6 permea- tion tubes with sizes going up to 12 cm length and 1 cm diameter. The oven temperature can be set from 40°C to 80°C. The concentra- tion of the different components can be chan- ged by a factor of 10 using the internal Mass Flow controller. The total flow of the system will be from 500 Nml/min for the high concen- tration setting up to 5000 Nml/min for the low concentration setting. The unit can also be used for diluting high concentration gas cylin- ders to the ppm and ppb level as well. A large number of permeation tubes are available. Each tube is delivered with its permeation rate certificate. Ideal for any kind of laboratory-made gas standard with different concentrations.

Circle no. 333 MINI LAB UHP NITROGEN GENERATOR

LNI Schmidlin AG mini nitrogen generators use the pressure swing adsorption (PSA) technique. The resulting stream of height purity nitrogen gas 99.999% is ideal for applications including GC, car- rier gas, make-up gas, generally for most of the known flow applications. This very quite and small device is a real table top unit and equipped with on board air compressors, requires electric power only. Version 110 / 230 V 50/60 Hz.
