Powder Characterisation Company Appoints Canadian Distributor
In a move that reflects sustained sales growth throughout North America, powder characterisation company Freeman Technology has appointed ATS Scientific Inc as its distributor for Canada. Headquartered in Burlington, Ontario, ATS Scientific now assumes responsibility for sales of Freeman Technology’s FT4 Powder Rheometer®
throughout this territory.
Tim Freeman, Managing Director of Freeman Technology, said: “I am delighted to be working with ATS Scientific Inc whose highly experienced team shares our dedication to customer support. We concluded the distribution agreement in the latter part of 2012 and already we see promising signs of how the market in Canada will develop for us in 2013. It is just one year since we established Freeman Technology Inc to serve the USA, so it is especially pleasing that we are now able to further extend the support we provide to customers throughout North America.”
ATS Scientific’s National Sales Manager Gilles Groulx, said: “Freeman Technology’s FT4 Powder Rheometer is an excellent fit within our portfolio of analytical instruments and materials characterisation systems. We aim to deliver the highest levels of sales and service support to the powder processing community in Canada and very much look forward to working closely with Freeman Technology’s own powder experts and application specialists.”
Freeman Technology provides systems for the measurement of powder flow properties. With a strong process focus and significant commitment to R&D and applications development, the company delivers extensive know-how alongside its universal powder tester, the FT4 Powder Rheometer, with expert teams guiding and supporting users in addressing specific powder challenges.
Freeman Technology’s headquarters are in Gloucestershire, UK, with a wholly owned subsidiary in the USA and
distribution partners in China, Ireland, India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and now Canada. In 2007 the company received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation and in 2012 the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade.

Efficient Tool for Polymer Screening
Vortex Overhead Stirring Systems from Asynt Ltd have helped Parogle Technologies improve the efficiency with which they synthesise novel dendritic vinyl polymers using solution or emulsion free radical polymerisation reactions.
Parogle Technologies, formerly Hydra Polymers Ltd., was formed in 2007 as a spin-off from Unilever plc to provide products derived from dendritic vinyl polymer technology including methacrylic, styrenic and polyurethane systems. Parogle Technologies exploit the structure and novel 3D shape of their polymers to provide products with superior properties in a wide variety of applications from paints and lubricants to pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
New Single-Use Product Range Showcased at Disposable Solutions for Biomanufacturing Conference
Parker domnick hunter showcased its new single-use product portfolio at this year’s Disposable Solutions for Biomanufacturing Conference, taking place in February in Brussels, Belgium. Parker domnick hunter has combined its traditional filtration expertise with SciLog single-use sensing, control and automation technology to produce a dedicated range of bioprocessing solutions.
SciLog Inc, based in Madison, Wisconsin, was acquired by Parker in August 2012 and integrated into the Parker domnick hunter Process Filtration Division to support its on-going development as a key supplier to the growing single-use market.
SciLog added proprietary pre-calibrated single-use sensing and automated control technologies to Parker domnick hunter’s filtration expertise with pre-calibrated sensors allowing for out of the box plug-and-play functionality.
Key to Parker domnick hunter’s success as a single-use technology supplier to the biopharmaceutical industry is the integration of its filtration range and its newly acquired and innovative sensing and control technology into automated single-use solutions.
The solutions will maximise productivity in critical biopharmaceutical applications such as bioreactor management, cell culture harvest, and product sterilisation and bioburden reduction.

Dr Roz Baudry, Senior R&D Chemist at Parogle commented "A magnetic stirrer is fine to make organic molecules, but most of our polymer solutions are too viscous and require using an overhead stirring system”. She added “We evaluated a range of commercially available multiple position stirred reaction systems before selecting the Asynt Vortex as it incorporated a powerful overhead stirrer and did not require any exotic glassware. Our Vortex systems are used to synthesise branched, grafted or linear polymers in batch or semi-batch processes. They have proven to be very efficient tools for synthesising compounds for polymer screening. We particularly like that the Vortex is very easy to set-up, use and has proven very robust even with the extensive workload at Parogle Technologies".
The Asynt Vortex overhead stirrer system allows three reactions to be stirred simultaneously using a single overhead stirrer and heated to temperatures up to 200ºC. The ability to perform multiple reactions in parallel enables the Vortex to improve efficiency. The compact Vortex overhead stirrer system is designed to agitate even the most viscous solutions and can be placed on any hotplate stirrer to heat reactions.
