Activity 1 Listen and speak: a story


1 Before listening Your teacher is going to read you a story called The raven’s beautiful cloth. It shows how people can care for each other. Talk with a partner about what you think the words caring and sharing mean.


2 While listening Remember the order in which things happen in the story.


After listening


3 Work with your partner and answer these questions. a. Who are the main characters in the story? b. Why did Binbou’s brothers think that his marriage wouldn’t last?


c. How did Karasu help Binbou? d. Why didn’t Karasu want Binbou to see how she made the cloth?


e. Why did Karasu leave Binbou?


4 Work in groups of four. Make up questions about the story beginning with: a. Why couldn’t ... ? b. How do you think ... ?


Make sure you know the answers. Then ask one another your questions.


5 In your group, talk about whether you think Karasu should have left Binbou.
