Activity 9 Language: past progressive tense
1 In his letter, Mpho tells his team mates that the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper was watching them while they played. Read here how to use the past progressive tense.
We use the past progressive tense to describe what was happening at the same time as the other event in the sentence. To form this tense use: were/was + (the verb) + –ing. Example: We were playing soccer when he fell.
2 Choose the correct form of the underlined verbs in this paragraph, then rewrite the paragraph correctly.
When the raven was better, it flew/was flying away. While Binbou was eating/ate, there was/is a knock on the door. A beautiful woman stands/was standing there. Later he went to see what she was doing/did. He found a bird that was weaving/wove a cloth from its feathers.
