CHAMBER NEWS

Chamber helps laptops appeal

The Chamber has donated IT equipment to a Chesterfield school – as it urged other businesses to make similar gestures for families unable to afford laptops for children. Eight each of unused

laptops, computer towers and monitors were sent to Ashover Primary School last month. It came as concerns were

raised that not everyone can manage to buy the necessary equipment for effective homeschooling, with businesses including trentbarton also stepping in to pledge support. The Chamber’s director of

resources Lucy Robinson said: “There will be many businesses that have spare laptops and other IT equipment lying around offices unused as a result of either temporary or permanent reduction in headcounts. “Donating kit to schools and charities can form a key part of CSR activity, while it could also improve productivity as we’re hearing more and more about disruption to business as a result of homeschooling.”

Marketing agency accepted onto Kickstarter scheme

Marketing agency Digital Ethos is seeking five full- time young workers to join its growing team after being accepted onto the Government’s Kickstarter scheme – with the help of the Chamber. The Leicester-headquartered company wants to fill

vacancies for a research assistant, office administrator, marketing executive, content executive and social media executive by the end of March. The £2bn Kickstart scheme was announced by the

Government last year to cover the cost of a six-month work placement for 16 to 24-year-olds, and the Chamber is acting as a gateway organisation to apply on behalf of firms that have fewer than 30 roles.

‘We intend to keep our five recruits on long term and will encourage them to see the bigger picture’

Digital Ethos is among this cohort and has become one of the first businesses in Leicestershire to be accepted for the new funding. Luke Tobin, CEO of Digital Ethos, said: “In a creative

industry such as ours we have a great deal to share and welcome the ideas of Generation Z, those who have recently completed college or recent graduates. “We need to move with the times and it’s this

generation that will drive our sector forward – that’s why we intend to keep our five recruits on long term and will encourage them to see the bigger picture.” Pieter Eksteen, education and business partnership

manager at East Midlands Chamber, said: “Digital Ethos is providing incredible opportunities for unemployed young people. We strongly urge other businesses interested in the Kickstart Scheme to reach out to their local chambers.”
