MEMBERNEWS Finance expert launches money MOTs

A Derby financial adviser has launched a series of online videos and free 20-minute “money MOTs” to help families get ready for whatever 2021 has in store for them.

James Wallis, founder of

Aristotle Financial Planning, at Friar Gate Studios in Ford Street, is balancing his day job with the task of filming a series of videos covering a wide range of topics, from budgeting and shopping local to giving to charity and even buying some house plants. James established Aristotle last

year and observes that his first year in business has been characterised by working with clients whose lives and financial plans have been impacted by the pandemic.

‘I wanted to reach out with some free videos and online drop-in sessions’

Now he wants to help more people come to terms with how the pandemic has affected them. The aim of the videos, each of

which are up to two minutes long, is to help people to take control of their lives and their money so that they can start 2021 with a healthy frame of mind. He wants anyone who feels that

they need some help with their personal finances to get in touch for a free no-obligation, drop-in style online discussion.

Pickerings opens Birmingham depot

Pickerings, the Swadlincote- based national supplier of modular buildings and portable accommodation, has opened a new depot on a five-acre site at Willenhall in the West Midlands. The company has invested a multi-million pound sum to build a new office and workshop, which features a large storage yard. Pickerings managing

director Neil Moss said: “Our new Birmingham depot has superb facilities and extensive storage space to enable us to quickly respond to customer demands. Our buildings are used in a growing number of markets around Birmingham and we have built our reputation by providing quality products and excellent levels of customer service.”

16 business network February 2021 James Wallis James said: “Any time there is

some form of change or upheaval in our lives it impacts on our finances, both in terms of our earnings and the ways in which we plan to spend our money. “It’s therefore no surprise that

the coronavirus has had a huge effect on everyone’s finances this year, which is why I wanted to reach out with some free videos

and online drop-in sessions for anybody who wanted to find out how they could take control of their money again. “However, I’m a great believer in

the link between spending money and happiness, which is why my videos will take a look at how people can put money aside to buy things that will cheer them up after such a difficult year, as well as

other non-financial aspects of their lives, that I think will help them with the uncertainties that face them with the sense of control. “I’ll be doing videos on issues

such as encouraging people to think about what makes them happy, as well as reducing screen time and even buying some house plants, which studies show reduce stress levels and boost people’s mood.”

David Astill welcomed at NCT

Nottingham City Transport (NCT) will soon have a new man at the helm after David Astill was appointed as managing director. His promotion from commercial and operations

director was announced after an extensive selection process and he will take over from Mark Fowles when he retires in April this year. David boasts 32 years’ managerial experience in the

commercial bus sector. He joined NCT in 2007 from FirstGroup PLC, where he had latterly been commercial manager for the Staffordshire, Cheshire and Merseyside region. Earlier in his career, David had a two-year spell as managing director of Pennine Blue based in Manchester. He said: “I feel privileged and excited to take on the

leadership of NCT at this very challenging time for public transport. I am certain with my strong management team we can work together to take NCT forward to continue to deliver an excellent bus network for Nottingham residents as they have come to rely on and expect. “I am determined to steer the company back to the

successful and well-regarded position it held prior to the pandemic. “I am particularly proud to be the first person to head-up the organisation who was born and grew-up in the city we serve.”

David Astill Pre-Covid, NCT carried just under 50 million

passengers each year on a commercial fleet of 300 buses, providing a city-wide network of over 50 routes. NCT chairman Councillor Graham Chapman said:

“David Astill will be an excellent new MD. He has wide experience of the bus industry and detailed knowledge of the company. We believe he has the determination and enthusiasm to ensure NCT continues to be the best company in the UK. In the immediate months post- Covid, NCT will need to adapt and I have every confidence that David and his senior management team are more than capable of responding to the challenges.”
