Interview

“I try to see the good in everything – it doesn’t always work but starting from a positive generally creates a good environment for any journey. Plants, nature and family are important to me, so it’s easy to become passionate and enthusiastic.”

I have planted the surrounding borders with plants rich in fragrance using herbs, honeysuckle, roses, jasmine, and many more to engage sensory experiences for both adults and the children.

How do you like to relax and switch off from work? What gives you most pleasure? We garden - it’s as simple as that. Te arch of water from the hose pipe in the sunlight watering my plants, the hum of the lawnmower and the scent of freshly cut grass, the scent of roses and the sweet sound of the birds and keeping my bees provides a tranquillity unparallel to any hobby or pastime. On holiday, I scuba dive with hundreds of logged dives all over the world - it’s a privilege to explore more of our planet’s beauty by going underwater.

You’ve received many awards over the years for your work. What do you see as your greatest achievement and your proudest moment? Prince Edward personally selecting me for his Award for Excellence in Horticulture in 2019 was a very humbling experience.

What’s coming up for you over the next few months and what are you most excited about? We start filming with ITV for a new series of Love Your Garden with Alan Titchmarsh and I am also working with Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford on ITV’s Tis Morning. I have been presenting both those shows for well over a decade now, and they are always great fun.
